In 1998 I bought a Valentine 1 because I had a commute on a 4 lane divided road with a 55 MPH limit (of course they raised the speed limit on it later). The Valentine 1 in combination with discretion worked well, used it constantly for a couple years. I've not used a radar detector in years. If I'm speeding, I keep it to less than 10 over. Back in 1990's in KY they didn't stop you for 9 MPH over or less. Well, couple weeks ago my 21 year old son gets a ticket for 6 MPH over. What a shit ticket.![]() If they are writing tickets for 6 MPH over apparently I live in a speed trap. Time to humor myself. Attached File Yea, Waze is handy but not for when they are moving and as a bonus they utilize "unmarked" trucks. Attached File Attached File I downloaded the current updates into the detector, so I'm about to entertain myself with this |

Ouch, 6 over? I’d go to court over that and make them earn that fine (or see if I could get it talked down to a faulty speedo because of different tire size from factory tires, etc) Here it seems to be pretty solidly 10 over when you start getting interest. I’ve gone past state patrol speed traps that I didn’t see until I was literally passing them, with my cruise control set at 64 (in a 55), while passing people in the left lane ![]() At that point there’s no point in hitting your brakes…just cruise past and see if they follow

| If a cop writes me a ticket for 6mph over I'm going to court. I've never had a ticket written for 10 over or less but I have been part of many a fishing expedition. My favorite is when they start the "I smell alcohol" and I tell them they should probably stop drinking at work. |

I will sometimes write tickets for less for young people. But I always put a “+5” or whatever number in the bottom of the narrative. This way if they decide to fight it I know exactly what speed they were really doing. But I’ve never written a ticket for under 15 over. Meaning you have to be doing at least 15 over for me to even look at you. Usually it’s 20+ though. Today I had one pass me at 55 in a 45 while sitting and running radar. They then sped up tp 61. So I pulled out and tried to catch them. They were gone. Likely doing 75-80 knowing I pulled out. I turned around. Not worth it. |

I suspect there was more to the story OR in some complaint zone. Often citizens complain to the area commander and he puts out a zero tolerance order. The best part of that is often the complainers get more tickets that folks passing through. IF you go to court ask when the radar unit was last certified and to see the records. Ask if he tested the unit before and after each stop. He'll say yes but ask if he documented it. He'll say no because its not required; but if you get the right judge it may sway him. Ask if his bodycam or dashcam shows the radar unit? It probably wont; but again it might sway the judge. IF it turns out its only his word against you, ask the judge why his word should have more merit? JUST KNOW that all those things could piss off a judge and work against you. I still occasionally run my old ESCORT mostly for fun. When I had my Audi A8 I had a grill mounted unit with a "gauge" mounted in the dash. It was effectively invisible to any casual look which was important when going through Virginia |

6 over?!?! Unless it was a school zone thats bullshit. I dont even cite for 6 over in a sz (I give ya 10) But good luck with radar detectors. We use lidar nowadays. Radar detectors detect *ding ding ding* radar. |
I don’t like making plans for the day. Because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around in the courtroom.

I’m none LEO, the prosecutors come to, to figure out the local ordinance on a section of road. Be nice, be polite, goes a long way. Get upidy, nobody is your friend. How did you handle it? I always look at a technicality as a cheap way to find errors in the ordinance |

If you have say, a low slung sports car, laser will go off semi's and other car's glass to get a slight hit on a laser detector every now and then in traffic. I just slow down for every overpass, tree line, turn around etc. |

Radar detectors detect *ding ding ding* radar. We had radar and lidar but my favorite was Speed Chronograph. Start the stopwatch when the vehicle crosses the first line and stop it when it crosses the second line. Then its just a matter of SPEED is equal to DISTANCE (the space between the lines) divided by TIME. My tolerance was 20 miles above, because when you when to court I could say 55 in a 35zone seemed excessive.... Yep I might have stopped for less if it was a DWI stop (1am driving without lights etc;) but then I only wrote the ticket as probable cause for the DWI |

I had told him that if he got a ticket he would be paying for his insurance (we still pay as he is in college and works). He told us about the ticket the next morning. I didn't have the heart to make him start paying due to a 6 MPH over ticket. Me and his mom are going 7-8 over sometimes (fine example we are). I never anticipated him getting a ticket for less than 10 over.He took the online class to keep points off his license and he paid the ticket. |

You should move to the right lane, where the rule of vehicle and traffic law still exists. You will not survive here. You are not a wolf, and the left lane is the land of wolves now.

I was a cop in 1992-94 I know how radar works, I used it. I know not to be the car out front, don't be the lone car, don't top the apex of a hill or bridge speeding as that is when you are vulnerable. In the daytime 6-7 over blends in with other traffic, like a wildebeest crossing a alligator infested river with the herd. At night you are like a lone wildebeest in the river and it is easier to get nabbed. My son had to learn this. |

One state (VA or MD, I think) had a part of the ticket "actual speed" and "cited speed." I didn't fight it since I had like a 15mph difference in the 2

In my limited experience, tickets for less than 10 over tend to be the writing officer cutting a break, somehow. There are exceptions, I have lived long enough to receive an unwarranted citation, though I've received a few warnings that could have gone either way. |

| Jeez. In my part of Texas NW Houston, you have to be trying pretty damn hard to get pulled over for speeding it seems. I almost don't think they give fuck about that because if you are doing 10 or 15 over the limit, they are likely passing you and not paying you no mind anyway. |
