The blue ones take more voltage and current to light them off too.
How about thaat for a useless factoid? |

I have some effects pedals with blue LEDs. They make it really difficult to see what you are doing when making adjustments. I have a couple with bright white LEDs that are worse.

Speaking of annoying LEDs, I invented something called a DED- it’s a Dark Emitting Diode. I plan to use it as a “Power OFF” indicator. So instead of using an LED to show power on, we’ll start using the DED to show that the power is off.

Blue is a bad color for indicator lamps on electronics or other devices and appliances. Especially when they're small dots or otherwise a point-source of light.
The reason is that short wavelength blue and violet light is the hardest for the human eye to focus on. First is Rayleigh scattering, short wavelength light scatters more, same reason the sky is blue. Second, is the "rods & cones" of the retina in your eye. Of the color cones, blue is the lowest proportion, only 10% of the total. In the center of your vision, the fovea, the blue cones are only 2% of the total. The blue cones in your retina make up for this by being much more sensitive than the red and green ones, and the processing the retina, optic nerve, and the visual cortex in the brain does. Net result, blue can be difficult to stare at and focus on. Third, chromatic aberration in the eye. From the cornea, the lens, and the vitreous humor (your clear eyeball gel) and more scattering make blue light have the worst focus in the eye. Chromatic aberration is where an optical lens doesn't quite focus all colors equally. And the ends of the visible spectrum are either shallow or deep of the ideal focus point. And blue (and violet) is on one end. Fourth, LED's (not counting "white" LED's"*) put out one specific color frequency in a rather narrow band. Generally, the human eye/brain is used to seeing colors that are multi-wavelength like fire, or full spectrum/continuous spectrum white light, such as incandescent bulbs, or sunlight. So LED's can look unnatural and irritating, especially in shorter wavelengths. *"White" LED's as noted above in the thread are actually blue or violet LED's with a secondary coating of yellow, green, and red phosphors that absorb some of that blue LED light and re-emit their own color. The mix of colors averages out to look white-ish to the human eye. Some white LED's have just yellow phosphor and the yellow mixed with the blue gives that "cool" bluish white appearance. Some have red and green phosphors included and have a more "warm" white look. I think some people are still irritated by white LED's because they're just a few distinct frequencies of blue, green, yellow, and red light just averaging out to a pseudo-white, as opposed to a continuous spectrum white from sunlight or incandescent lights. |

Predates LED's by I don't know by how fucking long, but 70's era Marantz stereo receivers with blue illumination, brushed
aluminum face plates and big wheel tuning dial were probably one of the most gorgeous and eye appealing stereo components of all time. Attached File Attached File |

You know the difference between a blue LED and a red LED? Forty cents, a soldering iron, and five minutes.

I remember quite a few knock-offs copied their color scheme, though they usually ended up a bit more teal than blue. |

Me too OP.
All of my recent flashlight purchases have been between 3000-4000k color temp My new 3200k emitter with 26800 battery flashlight looks like an old school 4D maglight on steroids lol. |

Quoted: I remember when blue LEDs were $700/each. View Quote ...which touches on one of the reasons why they're so popular nowadays: Even though they're no longer expensive, consumers still perceive them to be somewhat exotic and "high-end". (Associating certain colors with opulence and exclusivity is nothing new: Several centuries ago, ruby-red plate glass was expensive to make. It was sometimes installed in small windows above the entryway doors in expensive homes, as a statement of the home owner's affluence.) |

Buy black shelf paper
Buy hole punch Punch holes in shelf paper Use newly punched dots to cover offending LEDs No damage removal if desired in future |

I like the blue the cops have on their cop Rigs, except for that annoying off/on pulsating bullshit. I have complained a number of times about that, it's painful.

I miss the dull (frosted) red, amber and green leds. I also remember the first blue leds and how weak they were, now things have gotten ridiculous. Thank god for electrical tape.

Fucks with my migraines. Also hate the fuckers that use blue led headlights. |

Blue doesn’t bother me. I just wish they would tone down the leds on emergency vehicles. I understand they need to be bright but jeeze. |

LED's are great, until they're in a Chinese headlight with a shitty reflector. Nothing like blinding every oncoming car you come across.

Quoted: Blue is calming... Calm down! View Quote The shorter wavelength of blue by itself is not calming and irritates eyes - more common with LEDs where there is a narrower band of wavelengths associated with the color. Eyes find a variety of wavelengths more suitable for long term exposure. Exposure to blue light is listed under ACGIH for an 8 hour exposure work day for this reason. |

Watch The Orville some time. The entire ship is bathed in soft blue LED. I'd lose my mind if I had to spend my life in space with no natural green.

How about just not putting LEDs all over everything? I have electrical tape blocking LEDs all over the place.
