So I was thinking this morning:

You just committed a crime, a felony. Your standing in front of the judge and he gives you a choice, either spend the next six years in a state penitentiary in which your felony will be dismissed at the end of your sentencing or take the felony charge and walk free. What would you do?

Walk free of course. 6 years is a major dent in my life. And then i would try to get the felony on my record taken off after he lets me walk of course. Get a lawyer see what you can't do. Worst come to worse, i'll just be like all the other felons who have guns ilegally.

Then you’ll  have two felony convictions on your record with a nice 8 year sentence to go with it

I'd do the six, I like my 2A rights to much.

Thats a toughie cuz now you'd have a felony on your record and could never get a job.

It would have to be a coinflip and I couldnt make the choice.

You sure you want to be asking hypothetical questions?

They don't take kindly to them on this board sometimes.

Trust me, I work inside, and you don't want to come inside for 6 years. Take the hit and move on.

I'll walk and be like Mr. Liddy. He doesn't own any guns but his wife has 3 safes full.

Right now, I'd probably take the prison sentence. Guns and employment are major parts of my life. 6-years is a long time, but not so long that I couldn't handle it.
6/8/2007 4:25:45 AM EDT
[#8]
I'd take the felony.

I couldn't walk away from my kids for 6 years no matter what.

For those of us who don't believe in reincarnation, that 6 years is VASTLY more valuable than "felony" on your record.

Not to mention what your rectal odometer would read after a 6 year stint in the clink.

You might be out in 6, but you'd show up with a size 3 sphincter and leave with a size 48.

Six years locked up simply isn't an option.

You can still get a job geesh.

If I have already comitted a crime, no less a felony, what makes you think that I wouldn't obtain a gun illegally anyway?

All gun people should already know that's how it works....ie why gun laws don't work

Yeah cuz I want to work at Sonic or McD's the rest of my life.

+1

I imagine my wife would suddenly discover an interest in guns she never knew she had.

How many years do you get being a convicted felon with a gun?

What the heck did I do?  If I did something illegal, I probably did it knowing my punishment.

For sure.
Burn finger prints off chemically if no DNA was taken and acquire completely new identity.

Six years is a LONG time, and I'd rather not take the chance of getting stabbed, beaten, or raped in prison.  I'll walk.

Like this state doesn't already treat me like a felon.

Since they are just letting felons go in this hypo, if I got caught with gun, I would just get let go again!

Are you serious, you believe that? I have known plenty of people who got into trouble in thier younger days and turned thier lives around and have perfectly good jobs.

Walk out.

Assume identity of dead relative.  Get job at PD in another state.

Life without guns bummer.
Six years no pie OR being the new pie. a lot worse.

Here are my guns.
I'd like some more pie please.

Then I'd appeal the felony and get my guns back.

Who's says you can't have your pie and eat it too.
6/8/2007 9:09:37 AM EDT
[#24]
I'd walk.

A felony conviction would suck, but I'm not spending 6 years in prison.

Can I just go ahead and not commit the crime in the first place?
6/8/2007 9:22:25 AM EDT
[#25]
its doubtful you would actually do 6 yrs due to overcrowding, good time, etc

behave yourself, and you'd be out in half that i'll bet

6/8/2007 9:25:47 AM EDT
[#26]
I go for pie.

1) I'll never commit a felony
2) If I were to, I'd never get caught
3) If by some fluke they were to find me, I will not be taken alive.

I did a stent for awhile too, work inside that is. Those who say I'll take the 6 are full of it.

Oh you know people who have felony convictions and gotten good-great jobs in the government sector?

Funny, I always thought federal law enforcement and other government agencies frowned on having felony convictions....

Did I say jobs with the government or LE? No. There are plenty of other good jobs.

To the OP, sorry for the highjack I just don't agree that if you have a felony you can't get a good job and turn your life around.

Felony, followed by lawyer visit and appeal.

In any case, good thing my girlfriend is already into guns.
