The more I listen to the song , as recorded by Johnny Cash, and watch the video, the more convinced I am that the song was unintentionally written for him.

Considering his life and times it fits.

Watching the segment of the video with June Carter gazing at him stirs a mix of emotions.

And his voice is like riding down a gravel road in a pickup truck that has a lot of miles on it.  Not smooth, but dependable and comfortable.

An awesome song, by either artist and I agree it's eerily fitting for him. A great swan song. I only wish he hadn't have PC'd the lyrics about "crown of shit". Never mess with the lyrics, unless you're Weird Al.
