| I just finished presenting my semester term project for a marketing class. Yes the same class that some of you all filled out surveys for me earlier on in the semester for. Anyways I ended up getting the salesman to bring an adventure series H2 over to the campus for me to use as a visual aid. I got to let the class clim in and all around it and give test rides to them and then did my ppt presentation and they all loved it and said it was by far the best and most interesting of all. I downloaded some photos and videos of the H2's doing some really crazy 4x4 stuff and all of their eyes were sooo wide open with their jaws on the desk tops it was funny. I think i just might have to get me one. I admit when I first saw them I thought they would be sissified compared to mil spec hmmwv's but I am impressed for as luxuirous and comfortable as it is and still be as capable of road as it is it gets a thumbs up from me. Any of you own one? |
| My friends girlfriend went out 2 days ago and bought a Z-71 Tahoe 4x4 with total price tag of like $48,000 something and it is no where near as capable as an H2. Boy was he pissed when she drove up in that and he saw the price, so he is trying to talk her into going back and sawpping it on an H2. |

Offroad? The H2 is not as capable off road as the H1 simply from the solid rear axle and the immitation gingerbread they felt the need to plaster on this overweight, overpriced POS. Its 99% marketing as its a scaled-down H1...the H1 was never styled for appeal but rather designed for ease of manufacture with aspects of soft armor, modularity and configuration. In other words, the H2 style has no substance. Even the Jeep Wrangler has more styling and is a much better off-road vehicle unless you feel the need to take 6 friends off road. Powerful? No, the Jeep again beats it in pounds per Horsepower. Look at ground clearance, approach and departure angles, transmission and transfer, engine torque and delivery...everything goes against the H2. I bet in a few years the contractor for the MTVS will be selling to the general public...ugly truck but its far more capable than the HMMWV. [img}http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m1078_color.jpg[/img] The public are sheep. |
|
If you can afford one and are into them, who cares??? I love cars, and struggle daily with continuing to suppress the instinct to have a nice one. I say to myself, "this is not your hobby", "this is not your hobby". For many people, it is... My hobbies are quite varied, but gun collecting is a major one. I'd love to get my hands on a SIG 550 or 510. Practical? Nope! Sensible? Nope! Droolworthy? Yup! |

(snip) The public are sheep. word. I don't see how the Tahoe is much worse offroad, since basicly the H2 is a Suburban/Tahoe with a blocky body bolted on. Perhaps the body being shorter improves the approach/departure angels some, but I think that it's still a Chevy Suburban. Would I like to have one? Of course I would, but then again I would like to have a 4x4 Suburban or Tahoe, too. Would I want it enough to pay the extra money for it? Doubt it... |

Quoted: "Gay" "Gay" "Liberace Gay" Get a Range Rover. Save some money. Do amazing things in it. And don't be caught dead riding in a chick car like the H2. Easy, wasn't it? J. You sum it up pretty well. They went and "soccer-mom'd" the Hummer. I'll stick with my 4x4 Suburban. Sure is fun to tear it up in the mud [:D] |
| First of all I seriously doubt that any of you on here who are ashing the H2 has first of all researched it anywhere near what I have. I have spent the last 14 weeks doing so indepth. Second of all for you who are trying to spout "facts" you are soooo wrong. Firts of all GM did not buy the Hummer name nor do they make it on a chevy fram they dont make it at all!!! AM General makes them 100% and GM only markets and sells them. I have been out on the road and off road in them over the last 14 weeks now and I know for fact that they can climb a min of 60 degree incline and traverse a min of 40degree side slope, they can even go up a 10% inclineif 3 out of the 4 wheels are totaly freely slipping, and as for ground clearance your little other SUV's including the Jeep doesnt come close and then we talk aout the front and rear over hangs or the break over angles and the H2 blows them all away by far. We took it up hils and down hils across hills through a creek up and down a creek, climbed 16inch vertical steps from a stand still then how bout the 2200lb payload compared to 800-1100 on almost all others and how aout 6500lb trailer cap and um how bout a 9000lb cap winch 4x4 all the time um how bout min 20 inch water fording? Trust me when I first saw them I thought they were weak especially knowing what a real hmmwv is capable of but after 14 weeks of testing and researching it I am a believer. By they way my nephew has a jeep wrangler and his dad has a cherokee and neither one could keep up nor could my brother bronco with great work done on it including killer 4x4 crawling gears and 33 inch tires none of them kept up nor even tried alot of the stuff we did in the H2. And even though it is large it still does 0-60 in under 10secs and has good breaking and turning numbers. H2 is not a scaled down H1 from frame up it was re designed with using knowledge learned from their experience with the H1's. |

H2 is not a scaled down H1 from frame up it was re designed with using knowledge learned from their experience with the H1's. Hmm 3 different prominant car magazines say it's made on the Suburban frame, and the frame codes match...hmm.....6.0 liter V8? hmmmm could that be the Vortec 6000? Sure is! Oh BTW did you know that when the H1 was designed we were planning on fighting the Russians. Well a little known fact that the Pentagon and AM General decided to ignore is that the Hummvee was too wide to cross 90% of the bridges in Eastern Europe, to say nothing of navigating the forrests there. Actually I saw this in action in CO when I was in my WRANGLER. Up ahead I saw a bunch of reverse lights baking down the tral of the pass. Its the Hummer club, The trail got too narrow for the poor little Hummers. They couldn't even turn around so I had to pull up on the mountain and wait while this people with nithing better to do then buty an over expensive military hummer go by. So when I say that the H2 especially is a yuppy mobile I mean it. Soccer mom trucks. If you want to take a $50 -$60 k truck into offroad terrain that so serious that a tahoe can't handle it thats your business. But When it gets that tough I'll stick to my $20k Wrangler with 35's and ARB lockers and still get farther than ANY H2 or H1, fair enough? |
|
I know for a fact and from experiance that no other stock commercial SUV could compete with the H2 off road. With the exception to the H1 of course. I thought they where soccer mom pussies until I got some off raod time in them. Changed my mind about their capabilities, although they still have a high soccer mom factor. It makes me cringe to think they will never be used to their full potential, but if they are going to shell out the money, they can do whatever they want with it. That being said, with the flood of H2's, the dealers are having a hard time getting rid of the H1's. I saw a brand new H1 going for $40,000 the other day. |

The only reason you would get farther is if the trail is too narrow. The frame is not a suburban frame, however the front thrid is adatpted from the 1500 suburban and rear third of it is adapted from the 2500 suburban. The center frame and crossmembers are all new. |
| I have been seeing more and more of them in the hood. The homies think they are bling bling with their 22" stupid ass chrome wheels. What a waste of a good off road vehicle. Looks life GM would make some toned down models for us folks that would actually get them muddy. |

You might want to take a closer look at a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (if you consider that an "SUV"). It is a stock vehicle that will go places that an H2 can't even think about. |

You know, before I left school yesterday my roommate said, "When you going to put them wheels on your truck that are sitting in your room?" I said, "In the next few days." "When you going to paint it?" "I don't know, I think I am going to drop a new engine in it soon and get some lockers so it might be rattle canned for a while." The point of the conversation is that my 1982 chevy truck at the end of this year will have about $4k worth of work put into it. If I had another $46k to put into it, it would stomp the hell out of any city folk's pretend truck, H2. So would I buy one. No, not because I don't have the money, because it seems like a waste of money to me. I don't care what I drive as long as I have confidence that it will take me where I want to go and that it will start every time. I have that now and will have a better that this fall when the new work is complete. One tenth the cost, seems like a better deal to me. |

Quoted: The only reason you would get farther is if the trail is too narrow. Much experience in mud? The H2 has no lockers, and doesn't have near enough hp for a vehicle of its size to get through any serious amount of mud. It will perform offroad. Are there better things out there? Yes. |

Are there better things out there? Yes. It does have lockers, push a button and your're locked in. On the AM General test track they have the slight incline that puts three wheels on rollers. It was fun trying to get up it without being locked in, but was no problem afterwards. Plenty of experiance in the mud. Lockers are essential, which is why my Blazer is basically two wheel drive at the most important times.[pound]. I agree there are better things out there due to the price an size of the H2 though. |

Hey Trojanfan, For someone who spent months researching this vehicle, you seem to have done a very poor job. Did you read anything other than the GM propaganda? No, you obviously didn't based on the above comments. If you are going to come off as an expert on a subject, yo need to read everything about it. Good lesson for your post high-school life. The thing is a good offroad vehicle, but doesn't hold a candle to the real HMMV or a Land Rover Defender. It is a "Yuppie Mobile" extradinaire. Most people who buy one will never go futher offroad than parking it on their lawns. That said, the car magazines seem to think it is very capable offroad. Moreso than the trucks hwose chassis form the basis of the H2. BTW: I spent 4 years in the USArmy and we got hte HMMV the last two years I was there. INCREDIBLE vehicle offroad, not so incredible on-road! Cheers, SC |

This is kind of right. GM really did buy the rights to the Hummer name. They are assembled by AM General, GM just provided the money to build the factory and market it. The H2 is a soccer mom vehicle, but is capable. The Hummer name really does give this truck an advantage from a marketing and buyer perception standpoint. What if instead, the same vehicle was called the Trialblazer, would it sell as well? NO WAY!! If you want a real Hummer, buy an H1. |

I agree that the H1 or more accurately a Mil Spec HMMWV is far more capable than the H2. But the H2 is 1/2 the cost and it gets good mileage and isn't so huge that the wife can't drive it around town. As far as the Rubicon goes the H2 never had a walkhome failure. I have seen the H2 go through deep water, mud and sand, up steps, down steps and do it all in style with out banging up the bady at all. I contacted severl different off road clubs as well as market specific reporters to gain my info not just GM. All in all if I had the extra money to blow, YES I would prefer a Mil Spec HMMWV as I was in the Mil for over a decade and had more opportunities to push the vehicle to its limits than I care to remember and YES it performed far and above anyones expectations, but for a vehicle to use for around town as well as off road and doing it in style and comfort I will stick with the H2 probably. |

Toyota Landcruiser, for the money. Does wht you need it to, and will out last that H2 by a long shot. Lockers used to be optional, not sure if they still are... Toyota trucks. LandRover. Wrangler Rubicon, Or properly built Wrangler. Old school chevy. Way too much money, People will automatically think you're an asshole if you drive an H2. Like many others, I say if you want a Hummer, get a real one, for chrissake. They look alot cooler than the H2. |
|
Quoted: Those are nice if you like the whole "kit car" execution. Thirty grand more for some body panels slapped on a C1500? I'd rather have a sister in a whore house! Besides they have the offroad prowess of an AMC Pacer. They get stuck in a pile of wet leaves. After I test drove one and made a fair assesment this is one cool and capable offroad rig. Alot of what you people are saying just doesnt add up look alittle closer and more objectivly. Yes it is expensive but they sure are selling the hell out of them so price is not the object. |
|
As far as $$ goes, who cares. I'm looking at dropping $50k on a new Z06 Vette, and I don't care if someone doesn't think its practical...its not, but its my money and I want one. A Vette in Alaska??? Yup. Far as off road, I belong to a 4x4 club here and by far the Jeeps take the cake (granted we don't have a H2 or H1 member). |
|
Quoted: And even though it is large it still does 0-60 in under 10secs and has good breaking and turning numbers. Edmunds says it was the slowest in 0-60 (10.8 sec) of all the silly bling-bling large luxo SUVs in this test: http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/comparison/articles/96312/page013.html Its 6.0 V8 also makes less power and torque than the Escalade 6.0. It also got the worst overall gas milage of the tested vehilces at 9.2 MPG. Did I mention the 18.0 sec 1/4 mile? Again, worst in the test. Also second slowest in the 600-ft slalom at 53.6 mph. The other four vehicles had 4-yr/50k mile warranties. The H2 has a standard GM 3/36 warranty. Why did they compare it to these silly bling-bling SUVs? Because that's the type of person who will buy it: yuppie posers. |
| Okay, repeat after me... GM, that's General Motors for those in college, didn't acquire the rights to H2, they acquire the whole fucking company that is called AM General. AM General for thos in college, was a AMC spin-off before the Chrysler acquisition well-before being acquired by Mercedes-Benz. AMC, perhaps was most famous for the Gremlin and Pacer flops. Stop being a fuck'n idiot and think with your brain and not with your penis. IT IS VERY FACTUAL TO SAY THAT ALL LATE MODEL HUMMERS ARE GMs. |

| The H2 has been proven by several car mags to be the most capable production off-roader. The orignal Hummer would be better for a strictly off road vehicle/toy. For an off roader that still has to be an daily driver, the H2 is superior. It is cheaper than most of the full size luxury SUVs and much cheaper than an H1.The H1is not really practical as a daily driver, unless of course you need those helo-lift rings for your daily commute. |
|
Ok, most of you have seen pictures of my Jeep, so I won't post 'em again...but I never see Hummers in the places I can go in my Jeep. Several reasons: the're too big and heavy, and most importantly they're too expensive to bounce off of rocks all day. My Jeep was about $21,000 new. About $2500 in upgrades later, I'm kicking an H2's ass. Yeah, I don't have leather seats, but so what. For the amount of money that a H2 costs, I could have two idential Jeeps and a trailer. A H2 is a sweet vehicle, but until I see a whole bunch of them on the trails, I'll reserve judgement on their suitability for real off-roading. |
