Our neighborhood has a Facebook page. I joined a month ago to keep tabs on an up tick in teenage sillyness like late night car break ins, etc.

I check Facebook today and see a post from this page in my news feed and immediately recognize a photo of my wife's car.

Turns out a neighbor a few doors down took this photo as my wife sat in her car looking the mail over she had just pulled out of the mail box(daytime).

The photographer claims she's caught a stranger stealing mail and wants help finding the car and getting a license plate to call the police.

By the time I see the post, there are around 20 comments from idiots all worked up and collectively deciding that this photo needs to be forwarded to the cops and our whole neighborhood is in danger.

How would you react?

Let them have their moment and then allow them to realize their stupidity when they find out she lives in the neighborhood.

Also let them fume at the fact the cops won't do shit.

I would troll them, take the same car and the wife and post pictures of her breaking stuff, like a garden gnome. I would turn it into a funny instead of stressing about it.

Tell them you saw the car in the morning and the evening time.

It wont be a lie and it will facilitate trolling.

Reminds me of an incident in my ex's neighborhood. Ansley area for those familiar with rich intown Atlanta neighborhoods.

One soccer mom posts that there is a guy walking around the neighborhood, at 2pm with an "ak47". She posts about it, while calling cops, other soccer mom's see post and are hysterical, calling each other, offering comfort, etc, spreading gossip.

The guy had a fucking umbrella, but according to my ex's mom, "it might have been a gun, you never know..." even after it was all sorted out.  Some women need to find a hobby.

Eta: I'm in agreement with other posters to troll. Post pics of her "attacking" you.

I will say as annoying as that shit is, my Neighborhood has a FB page and while typically the posts are prime examples of first world problems, these neighborhood busy bodies thwarted several attempted break ins resulting in arrests. One of these arrests included the some scummers in their neighbor's house when the cops showed up. I typically ignore my neighborhood's FB page outside of posts like that.

Give the FB neighbor a chance to fix it before laying into them publicly. It will probably be a great resource once they vet their postings better. Keeping informed about community stuff is about the only thing I miss from social media.
