I'm new to the site and have never purchased a gun from anywhere except a store (in person). I will be placing an order soon for my first AR. The order will be from Palmetto. I have found a list of local FFL dealers. Can someone explain how the process works and what my responsibilities are?

Place the order online. Call your local FFL and have them fax or email a copy of their license to PSA. PSA will ship to your local FFL, and you go pick the gun up there and do the paperwork for your state.

Figure out what local FFL you want to use, arrange with them to transfer the receiver or weapon  you want. They'll let you know when it has arrived and you go in and fill out the paperwork. Pretty straight-forward process.

They may want your order number when they fax their info so have it handy.

This. Have your FFL fax your order number in with the license.

Check your HTF for local FFLs that people use and recommend.

Do yourself a big favor and ask the FFL of your choice:

1-If they will handle a transfer for you

2-How much they will charge you for the transfer ($20-30 usually), including NICS if they need to do one

3-If there will be a tax charged (if there is tax, it should be for the fee they are charging you for the transfer, NOT for the cost of the rifle at Palmetto)
