The House and senate pass a bill  and President Trump signs it that says Obamacare will end on July 4, 2018. Then start work on it's replacement and tell the dems that they better get on board or get out of the way on fixing it or they get blamed for the disaster.

Setting deadlines is how you get things done.

IMO, the Republicans should have agreed to keep their yaps shut and just let it fail. Now they're on the hook and no matter what they do they're going to get pounded. By the press. By the FSA.

Let it fail.

It had nothing to do with healthcare.

It was about insurance welfare and redistribution of income.

It is unsustainable.  Let it die a slow miserable death.

The problem with that is we were headed for more than a political disaster, it was going to do grave harm to the health care system also. I might add that it has already done quite a bit of harm to the health care system.

Despite news stories to the contrary, when you file your income tax, you have to answer the question about insurance and you are still liable for the fine if you don't have any.  The fine is over $2,000 this year.  Tax preparers are in an ethical quandary.  Obamacare is still the law of the land and refusing to answer the question on the form is illegal for the preparer, whether the IRS prosecutes them or not.   Tax payers can shop around until they find someone who will file an illegal return.

I like the idea of setting a date in 2018 for expiration and then working on a new law.

I don't think they ever planned on letting it fail or replacing it.  I think as time went on they liked the idea of the power and money involved.  I figured the fix was in during the GOP convention when Romney was nominated.  Rubio was quoted saying if Romney didn't win, we'd be stuck with Obamacare forever.   If they were going to run their mouths and promise to repeal and/or replace it, they've had several years to draw up their replacement plan, just like they've had several years to draw up a tax reduction and simplification fan.  They expected Clinton to win and got caught with their thumbs up their ass, and I hope Trump starts raking them over the coals for their foot dragging and lack of work ethic. Ryan and McConnell both should be kicked out of their positions since they could have had plans ready for implementation.

No, Cloward and Piven is taking down healthcare and everything else.  The left is fighting to overwhelm and collapse the system.

Once all the insurance companies bail which they are already doing, the worst thing would be more government regulation.  Pass antidiscrimination laws and let companies sell health insurance across state lines. Just like anyone can by car insurance today.  The market will correct itself.

Easy
step 1 repeal it.
step 2  allow insurance agencies to compete across state lines.
step 3 Cut taxes on everything. More take home pay less medical expenses hurt.

It's very easy - complete repeal using reconciliation - system goes back to exactly what it was before it was passed.

Pass new plan using all R votes.
If D's want to block it, paint them as obstructionists & explain to the public that we need a filibuster-proof majority in 2018 if they want it fixed.

Yep, and it will be damned hard to do anything else given the way it was structured (i.e. If you like your doctor, you still lose your doctor)

Problem is, the old system has been killed off and won't come back.  Obamacare was deviously designed in this way.
