 WHERE TICKET FUNDS GO
Court costs

The following is a breakdown of costs associated with a speeding ticket in Alabama. The fine for speeding is $20. Autaugaville gets 90 percent of the fine, with the remainder going to the state. A speeding ticket is $173, according to court documents. Each traffic ticket has the same associated court costs:

$21 State fair trial fund
$54 State general fund
$2.50 District attorney's office
$3 Peace Officers Annuity fund
$8.50 Driver's educational fund
$2 Crime victims' fund
$3 Autaugaville municipal court
$2 Law library fund
$2 DNA fund
$5 Advance technology fund
$10 Autauga County District Court juvenile court services
$40 Autauga Metro Jail fund

DUI charges

For a driving under the influence conviction, a municipal judge has discretion in the size of fine levied. Each DUI case has the associated court costs listed above. For a fine of $1,000 in a typical DUI case, the money is divided among:
$100 Chemical testing fund, a state fund
$100 Head injury fund, handled by the Alabama Department of Public Safety
$250 State general fund
$250 90 percent to the city, 10 percent to the state

Note: If the fine levied is more than $700, the remainder is split, 90 percent to the city and 10 percent to the state.

So out of that $173 fine only about $21 goes to the city.

Well, that is nice to know, so what if you know how the money is distributed, a speeding ticket, is a ticket.

Here in Los Angeles, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors(the county executive government) actually have a line item for moneys taken in on traffic tickets.  I don't know the break down to other govt agencies are, but I saw this on a PBS KCLS L.A. County Board meeting.
