Your drills for malfunctions?

A simple and effective way to up your muscle memory, a picture tutorial.

One grab a spare mag or that one that you've already declared suspect and range use only.

Step 2: Disassemble. Now would be a good time to lube your mag spring and body, you lazy fuck.

Step 3:ID the follower this is for a sig 229.

Step 4: grind or file that thing off.

Step 5: reassemble.

Optional: I decided to spray the mag body's white so I know they are training use only. You can spray the follower if you want so if you want to convert it back you can replace the follower and resume normal use of your mag.

If any of you are still scratching your heads, this mod will purposefully induce a malfunction and simulate a misfire. This should  up your game in response time to a malfunction. Futhermore. It can be used as a teaching aid for a new shooter if they are having issues slapping the trigger, anticipating recoil or riding recoil.

That's it for today. I hope this helps in some way or another.

I've got two Beretta 17 round magazines defective from the factory that will lock the slide back prematurely sometimes with rounds too close to the slide stop.

I've thought of emailing Beretta, and I've thought there was no way I could sell them on the EE, but now I know I can sell them as  OEM Beretta Malfunction drill magazines.  And they're better than yours as it's a random round that locks the slide back.

Or just randomly load a snap cap in the mag?

I shoot Glocks, and therefore do not find it necessary.

Or throw a snap cap into one of your mags, mix them up so you can't tell which one has it.

This. I let the kiddos load a mag for me. They get a kick out 'tricking' me.

Some people tend to worry about mixing live and dummy ammo.

Just an option for some  or as some say, another tool in the tool box.

These are my dummy rounds.  Unless I'm loading in the dark. I think I'll be ok.

But as you say. Anything that makes you better and works for you. Good.

I just made my pistol feed empty cases without a hitch.  Like a revolver, I can skip load for both misfire clearance and flinch detection.  Load magazines with different combinations of live and empties, and pick up the mags at random.

I can now only make it stovepipe or otherwise jam by loading very light loads and limp wristing.  Its a Colt 1911 in .45 ACP.

They make bright orange dummy rounds or just coat your own. I would be more worried if modified magazines would get mixed in ?

I just pull out some golden bullet or other crappy .22 and run it through my m&p 22 pistol.... 500 rounds of that and you can clear just about anything.

You could just buy a couple Sig mags made by checkmate.

Apparently, you don't own a Glock 42!

I had to swap out my -02 mags for -03 mags, as it would randomly lock the slide back, with several rounds still in the mag.  It was indeed a pretty good training tool.

No kidding.  I'm a USPSA shooter too and the only malfunction I get is when I choke on a reload and fail to fully seat a mag.

If my gun chokes routinely I'm going to find out why and fix it.

Yeah... in 20 or so KSTG matches, my Glock 19 or S&W 5906 maybe had one or two jams each and one of those was the ammo being bad and caused jams in several other peoples guns too.

Well, we did this in po-po academy.
We would load mags with a mix of empty shells with live rounds. Then, we would put one into our pocket and two in our mag pouches. Then, we would get on the line. Insert the mag from our pocket, Rack the slide. Then, wait for one of the instructors to yell contact. We would start shooting and then when a blank shell got into the chamber, we would yell out, kneel, go through the motions of a clearing malfunction. We would rack the slide to clear the breech, go back to firing, if it is empty, drop the mag and load another magazine, rack the slide, yell IN, then start firing again. Eventually, we would get another blank shell and repeat the same malfunction clearing procedures. Blah blah blah, and do the same with the third magazine..

Yeah, cause that dummy ammo can be dangerous on the range...............

Someone might (not) get shot with it.

Yeah, you say that. There's a reason we can't do ball and dummy drills anymore.

Who's we and why can't we do B&D?

Did some tard load a mag with B&D and then take it off the range and put it in his duty gear?
