For a car salesman to call you back after leaving a message you are ready to commit to buy a vehicle?

Have you tried to text him? That is my preferred method of contact if you're trying to reach me. Well I do have his cell number from his card. Just text him then. I've missed several customers in the past because the receptionist did not pass along the message. |

Tell him not to bother calling if he can't do the deal your way before you walk out. That call you crap is a tactic to get you to second guess yourself. Too many dealers/competition to play those games. I held off on the deal to do my research and to make sure that I wanted the vehicle in question. I try my best not to impulse buy. He was a nice enough guy who actually talked me out of spending money on some options that I didn't end up needing. I understand he is a salesman and that they have tactics but I am a return customer to this dealership and they have treated me very well in the past. This call is to confirm I want a specific type of vehicle, I want to work out pricing (which I am trying to do research on), and for him to know I will commit to the vehicle if he finds the one with the setup I want. |

I'd hang up the phone and start calling others. I want to be reasonable. He may be with another customer. If I called within two hours of business opening, I'd wait until the end of the business day. After the first two hours, I'd give him 24. I check my email within the first two hours of my day. |

So far 40% of you would wait less than an hour? Good grief you people are petulant children.
When someone leaves you a voicemail what is your mean time and extreme spread to respond? Do you stop whatever you are doing and respond to messages immediately no matter where you are or what you're doing? If I were in person-to-person negotiations with a sales person and they put me on pause so they could go return phone calls I'd probably bail. When I leave a voicemail I assume the other party is just as busy as I am and will get back to me when they can. |
you cant buy a car over the phone go the the stealership and buy it ! When you walk in say your here to buy the car from the salesmen and get the ball rolling . If you dont have your financing set up or ready to pay by personal check your not ready to buy the car .

you cant buy a car over the phone go the the stealership and buy it !Its not at the dealership. They didn't have the model I wanted in stock. None of the dealers in my area did. I am calling him to let him know I want one and to have him do prep work so that when I do go tonight it can be faster. |

Sounds to me like the call back you want is essentially a courtesy call for him to say "hey, I got your message and I'm on it", right?
What time of day was the message left? I'd say give him an hour unless the message was left between 11:30 and noon, then 2-2.5 hours. He could be with someone actually filling out paperwork and paying. That takes a little more precedent than calling back the guy who said he'd commit to getting a car if the one he wants can be found. After that, he's probably being lazy and you have to ask yourself how far does that laziness go as he looks for the vehicle you want? |

Anybody have any good sites to do research on for pricing and options? (Toyota Tacoma) So far I have used: TrueCar.com Cars.com Edmunds.com Carmax.com Autotrader.com Carfinder.com Bestcarfinder.com Based upon frame condition I can give you an estimate of roughly $19k. |
|
I would drive up there and get my business done one way or the other. YOU control the deal, not the salesman. He isn't doing anythin for you other than showing it to you or unlocking the doors of the vehicle.
People forget how sales goes. The customer is right 99.999999% of the time and if you as a salesman don't provide the service required, someone else will. OP. There will be plenty of people there who will do what you want when you want TODAY |

Yes I want him to respond that he got the message so I know he will start finding the vehicle I want ASAP. I want to go in tonight with the ability to have a general idea if they can find one from another dealership, have to order one from the factory, and find out how long it will take. I go to dealerships with a purpose to get in and out and not waste time. |

A day. I'm not an asshole with ADD. He just called back. Says he just got done with a customer who was filling out paperwork, checked his messages, and called me. He confirmed what I wanted without me having to tell him again (good memory) and said he would start looking. I am going in tonight to work on price and to find out if the manufacturer has to make one for me and how long it will take. Called at 10:15 Return call at 11:50 |

Many dealerships spend a lot of time hiring and firing people. Of course if the receptionist is young, cute, jiggly and knocking the GMs junk around she's untouchable. |

Life happens. Maybe the guys daughter is missing and hes at the police station? Maybe his wife was in a horrible car accident and hes at the hospital?
Now, because of your selfishness and impatience, hes going to lose a sale at a time when he needs the money the most. I mean for all we know the guy could be in the ER right now getting his gall bladder removed and you are worried about getting your new car in under an hour? This guy is suffering unimaginable grief and you're focused on a car. For shame. I mean hell, maybe his dog was run over by an illegal immigrant and hes scraping the remains off the sidewalk? Is the car that important? Really? I mean the guy might have had a small bit of space debris fall from the sky and hit him in the back paralyzing him and you're going to hold that against him for your car! |

Relax, it is a courtesy call on both sides. Good try though. I left Monday night with info and he gave me his card and a printout of the features that I wanted. With my call he knows that I did not waste his time and that I am a real, returning, customer. With his call back to me I now know that he is going to do his homework and find the exact vehicle that I want. I didn't expect him to do it Monday night because I didn't ask him to and I didn't expect him to for a person who might not have returned. Also since I knew he was at work since the receptionist said he was, paged him, but wasn't answering the page she asked if I wanted to go to his voicemail. Turns out he was actually working with another customer and I am glad he didn't leave them to answer the call. It would have been rude. |

I understand. I'm 68 and have purchased more new cars/trucks than I will admit to. I found a family that has 2 different brand dealerships and have dealt with them ONLY for about 25 years now. They treat me very well, we never haggle because I learned early on that their bottom line was the best deal I was going to get, and research taught me that quite some time ago. The Chevy dealership is 15 miles from my home and the Dodge dealership is 4 blocks from my house. When I'm ready, I call them, tell them what I want...they shoot me a price on my trade in and I either say yes or no over the phone. If I say yes I pick it up the next day. No sweat, no hassle and great service after the sale w/o exception. |
