Below is a picture of the front of a house that I had my GF take (notice how horribly off center it is but at least it's in focus) on the way back from my parent's this Christmas. The reason I asked her to snap the pic is because this place is virtually unchanged from how it looked when we visited on Thanksgiving!!!

At that time, I had suspected that the truck had sat for some time because of all of the junk in the bed even though the truck was up on ramps. As mentioned, the truck and couch appear to have been unmoved since at least Thanksgiving.

Notice the tin roof. Notice the transmission in the bed of the truck. Notice the drive shaft out underneath. Notice what appears to be an oil filter (!!!!) blocking the rear passenger wheel. Notice the aftermarket wheel covers. I shudder to think what the inside of this place looks like.

The picture is rather large but I wanted to preserve the original size (and therefore detail) as much as possible.

I have linked to the pic instead of posting because it is nearly 600k

Yea, must be the cheap beer that came out of the empty beer cases that have been in the back of the truck since November. If only they drank Heneiken instead.

Instead of designating the picture "/hillbillychristmas7md.jpg

You should have called it "myshitdon'tstinkonchristmas7md.jpg"

Look at the cases towards the back.

Well, old buddy, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.

No matter how poor you are there is no excuse for having an old couch on the front lawn.

There is no excuse for using the back of your broke-down truck as a trash dump.

There is no excuse for having trash on your front porch.

Poor people can be neat and clean just like anyone else.

But only if they are not lazy or sorry.

Nah, fuck that. I didn't have a pot to piss in when I grew up, but we had more pride than to let our house look like that. It's a matter of pride and those people obviously don't have any. You don't need a lot of money to keep your shit clean and presentable. Those people are just lazy and don't give a shit.

Here in West Virginia, that's a pretty common, run of the mill home. Some folks would say he is below the state average for only having one car on blocks in the front yard.

Actually, they had about 4 vehicles in the front yard. One looked like it could be a runner though impossible to tell. This one was the only one obviously immobilized. Two of the other vehicles were in the same spot they were back in November, near a collapsing outbuilding.

Seems to me it could be as simple as this for the picture.

he/she's renting a over priced shit hole.  barely making it one way or the other on the paycheck to paycheck living.

the truck is for work and hauling off the trash. Well damn, tranny went out and he/she just doesn't have the coin to fix it (under your time table or with your means) .

Now He/She is possibly saving $$ to do so,(hard to do when poor) in the mean time the trash will still need to go when the truck is fixed, and with no where else to store it. it's in the back of the truck seem logical. the couch could be the same reason. waiting on the truck.

someone has always gotta be fucking with someone else. sheesh.

I had people like that living right next to my when I lived in Montana.  They would park broken down vehicles on my property.  They would never answer the door when I came to talk to them about it.  One morning I was so mad I banged on their door with a hammer until they answered.  I told them to get the truck off my property and he just stood there with a confused look on his face, like I just asked the most unreasonable request.  He says "Yeah... ok maaan" (think "The Dude" from Big Lebowski).  Then there was the time they drove through my front yard with a truck... And of course their property was a mess.

Stupid is as stupid does.  Cleaning up your place doesn't cost anything, but it does interfere with quality time sitting on the couch, watching TV and drinking beer.

...or not.

The point is - we don't know.

What I DO know is that I'm sick to death of people making excuses for why others choose to live like pigs.  Does assuming that someone, no matter how humble their situation in life, should try to have some pride in their appearance and that of their property make me an elitist?  Really??

Yes it does, because you're putting your standards onto them, they don't meet your standards, therefore there is something wrong with them.
