I used threaded rod in different sizes according to what cal. the pistol Is that i want to mount.
You can get rubber/plastic coating at home depot and you coat the rod one or two coats leaving the threads exposed that you put through the wood (5/4 pine),mark out your holes and use a counter bore bit so you can recess the hole so you can put a nut on the front and the back so that the nuts are even with the surface of the wood.
I used those felt furniture pads that you put on the bottom of chairs to hide the nuts and to protect the ends of the barrels.
There is no sag even with the colt Kodiak 44 mag on the right side of the picture.
The rubber/plastic coating really works and will not allow the inside of the barrel to be scratched.
You know I was wondering if I mounted something like this on the floor of the safe if I could store Rifles like this and increase the amount of Rifles I could store in there?
You guys think mounting Rifles upside down like that would hurt them any?
