I am looking for an artillary unit patch from Korea, the patch had a green leaf on it I believe.  My grandpa did basic at Fort Knox if that would matter.



UPDATE:  So I finally got the patches sent to him, he was very thankful as he simply could not find them anywhere in his home town.



Now
he has asked me to search for a 24th infantry division, 63rd field
artillery shoulder pin.  Any ideas what this might look like?  He can't
remember, except for that it was a pin that went on his shoulder.  I can
not seem to find it either with Google.

Only thing is...a lot of these old timers don't do much internet...so a reply may take a while.  I don't remember a green leaf on any of my Dad's patches, but I have not seen any of them for a number of years either, so may be mistaken.  Good luck.

Now that i think of it, I think one of his pins may have had a clover leaf on it.  Eight Army pin perhaps?  Google up a pic of an Eight Army pin and see what you find.

Post a pic of it and it will be IDed very quickly.


ETA: I don't think  there were separate Artillery brigades in Korea. It is more likely a divisional patch.

My guess is 24th Infantry Division.

It will take a few months but it will be invaluable in your research as it will list all his awards/medals, duty stations, and units.

Meh...my memory is getting bad.  My Dad's unit insignia had a cactus on it (green) symbolizing service in the Mexican War.  Eighth Army is more of a red X type of look.  If your relative was in a unit of the Kentucky National Guard...some unit pins/crests are shown here:

1/149th Infantry KYARNG has a cactus denoting Mexican war service. It is Distinctive Unit Insignia not a shoulder patch

103rd ID patch had a cactus.

I am pretty sure this is the one I am looking for.

Now if only I can find it on a boonie hat to send him.

3. Sew it yourself or pay a local dry cleaner to do it for a few bucks.
