Ok.  I've never done a poll or survey on this board but here goes.

IMHO some (or maybe most) of the public at large perceive gun owners as lacking in adequate formal education (i.e. ignorant white trash or prison guard types that have bred with close relatives).  Some would probably say that if you own and/or are interested in guns/weaponry you are probably not a Harvard or Stanford alum (or if you are you are certifiable).

Now I think I can tell from reading the posts in this forum that the intellect of the members varies widely, just as it does in the general public.  While how much formal education a person has does not necessarily correlate directly with intelligence, it is some indication.  I know many bright and successful people never went to college.

So how much education do all you gun nuts out there have?  Be honest in the poll.  Lie all you want in your posted replies.

Let's keep this going.  The early results would seem counter intuitive to many.  You guys are being honest aren't you?  Maybe white trash don't have access to the internet.  Vote if you're white trash and proud of it!

You are so right.

I have a MSEE.  Bunches of technical guys, well educated (extremely well), are conservative, and firearm friendly.

Yes. Sorry if my question was ambiguous.

For the Record:

BS: Geology
MS: Geology

Did all the class work for a PH.D but got sick of the ivory tower mentality of academia.

The poll results add up to 116%.  Regardless of your level of education, you must have slept through statistics.

BA -- Journalism, Texas A&M, 1977 (I am a recovering journalist.  I stopped when I came to my senses and became a Reagan Conservative.)

M.Agr. -- Horticulture, TAMU, 1979  (As much a business degree as an agriculture degree.)

Yeah, that would be pretty disturbing if Picard and Data were carrying on that particular conversation - I thought maybe you changed it on purpose!

FWIW, I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and have also completed the Army's Armor Officer's Basic and Advanced Courses.

I am starting my senior year at Miami University (though, I will be graduating the first semester of my third senior year since I'm doing a double major (music ed. and B.A. in music . . . and perhaps performance too which is only two or so more classes) ).  Dean's list 3 out of 6 semesters.  I'm hoping to go on to get a master's and perhaps a PH.D, but time will tell.

But I guess it isn't fair - I wasn't born a gun nut.  I became one a mere three years ago.

B.S....Sociology Major, with Minors in Biology and English. Took me 7 years, working nights. Then I realized the the B.S. Degree truly is BS!

If I were to do it over, I would have gone into a skilled trade. Most of the profs./instructors were liberal, arrogant asshats, who wallowed in "academia" as a be all, end all proposition, but had no idea how to change a flat tire. That was the '60s and '70s....I am sure things are different now.
