Total rounds, and rounds of your carry ammo?

And if you had a malfunction during early testing, what would it take for you to trust it again?  Would you try different ammo, or fire more rounds to break it in, or have it looked at?

How many rounds fit in the magazine + 1

Depends on the gun. I am good with glocks after a couple hundred rounds of ball and a couple of mags of carry ammo. I carry pretty normal stuff though. I would be more picky if my ammo selection wasn't main stream.

Usually 100 rounds of plinking ammo if no issues. Then a mag or two of carry ammo to see if any issues.

500 total, 200 of which is with intended carry load without hiccup of any sort.

It might be.

But just maybe OP can get some built in answers in addition to the what is said in here.

Maybe lighten up?

For the other poster....I did not answer or post in that thread to my memory.  I don't have an answer.  Depends on the gun and how I feel with/about it.  I have no set number.

Pretty much this.

At least 200 rounds, total.

I might even clean it afterwards.

Used to be 500 rounds of carry ammo w/o a hiccup before I'd trust it. Ammo got a little more expensive and now it's 100 rounds.

Take the pistol/mags/ammo/holster combination through a good multi-day course in conditions you expect it to be used in.

The type of pistol starts to be less of a factor, and your training more and more of a factor when you shoot regularly in high volume, productive courses.

For me, that means M&Ps and Glocks.

I've shot high volume in everything from hot desert/dust, to Arctic dead of winter can't see the ground because of snow, to torrential downpours of rain, slipping in the mud on the way to and from the targets (range walk, walk-shoot drills, running).

Get a Glock or M&P, buy a boat load of mags and ammo, and take courses from reputable instructors who focus on real-world, applied violence.

Most of my SIGs are good to go after a couple hundred rounds.   On the other hand, I have a Les Baer that recommends 500 rounds just to break in the hand fitted parts, let alone prove to be 100% reliable.

That's an interesting question.  I suppose with Glocks (my EDC is a Glock 26) it's maybe two boxes of range ammo and a box of carry ammo.  I've never had a Glock not work.  They have a tendency to always function.

I’ll typically run 600 flawless rounds as well as around 50 or so of the carry +p stuff. If no hiccups, then I’m good with CCWing it.

Typically 500 rounds.  Usually half of those are my carry rounds.  HST

Couple hundreds rounds of ball ammo and around 50 of what I'll carry, shot at varying rates of fire.  I also did a "highly scientific" test with some old jeans and milk jugs when selecting my current carry round to make sure I was getting decent expansion from my specific gun.  Yeah, there's plenty of videos of tests, and water doesn't match ballistics gel, but it was fun and gave me some cool looking expanded rounds.

Box of 50.

Put a few boxes of various ammo through it and if zero hiccups, then it's good to go. If it has any issues it might just need to be broken in, so keep shooting it till the problems go away. If they problems don't go away, then fix it. But yeah if you can get it to go a few hundred rounds of FMJ's without issues, then it's good. And if you can get it go run your box of hollow points you plan on carrying without issue, then it's good. Must pass both tests.

Hey there's a bit I forgot about. On mouse guns like a Beretta Jetfire, they fail at about the same round count 90-95. This is because the action can get really dirty. On these guns I try to keep them clean and lint free. I make sure that they run carry ammo for 50 rounds consistently. These are bugs that I use if I am at a work function that requires a tux and getting caught carrying would be like shitting on the dais in church.

I compete with my carry gun.  I'm very confident it will function as expected.

1911, about 3000 or so...then MAYBE.  Event then, only in emergency.  Just SO many negative factors; low-capacity, fickle magazines, manual safety -- plus the grip-angle is all wrong.

Glock: 250
Sig: 250
HK: 250

This. Couple different grip strengths, all the magazines, off hand and one handed, different ammo.

Then I get enough of a batch of ammo and shoot all of it (to verify) except the carry load +5 (spares). Ammo is rotated at practice (use current carried load to see how many COM hits I can get is #1 task at the range). Yes, even the expensive ammo, hollowpoints, etc.

If I get a malfunction, trust goes down until I can figure out why and fix it... replacing the gun, the ammo, parts, whatever.

Judging from all the glamour shots of the pristine safe queens I see on this site, I would be surprised if any of the pistols have 20 rounds down the barrel, much less the 500-1,000,000,000 that every swinging Richard here claims they shot.

Just because they're pristine on the outside doesn't mean they're not shot to shit on the inside.
