Anyone know where I can check out Homak gun safes? I'm having trouble finding distributors. I talked to a ranking officer about waht he did with his guns in the beginning stages of his career. Seems these safes would fit me until I can get settled somewhere (i.e. fleet squadron). www.homakmfg.com/security1.asp |
| It's quite a stretch to call them a gun safe, they are a lockable cabinet, better than nothing, but not a safe. I might add that if someone wants to steal one, two people can pick one up and carry it off, they need to be securely bolted down for even basic security. |
Well, in a previous thread I stated I have to move at least once in less than a year, possibly twice in two years. A heavy, full safe is going to be a problem. I want one... but it's not totally feasable at this point. I'm in a highly mobile point of my training right now. |
Maybe. What I would do is find someone with a computer and goes to Lowes web site. Try www.Lowes.com Then type the word "safes" in the little white search box. Then hit the "enter" key...it's on the right hand side of the keyboard. After that look at the screen and see what you find. SGatr15 |
Yeah already did that. In my experience, especially with Walmart's site... store sites don't always show everything they stock.

Sorry, I was being a smart ass. ANd you are right. The Lowes in my area doesn't have them. I just got rid of my Holmak safe and it worked fine for what it was....a locking steel cabinet. Best in a closet hidden. Held about 10-12 rifles and had a small shell. Ammo I had to store seperately. |

It is an excellent temp option. Yes a crow bar will open one, but it will take a few minutes to do so. Mainly it will protect the guns from children and irresponsible people, but not really against a determined thief.. They do however bolt into the wall which helps somewhat. SGatr15 |

The terms homak and gun safe are mutually exclusive. Less than 5 minutes with a butter knife and a pair of vice grips will relieve you of your possessions. Unless it is the 'special' model where anybody with intarweb access can open it with a frickin' bic banana pen barrel. Burn your money and hide your guns and you will be ahead. I posted in the other thread, if it is the one that I am thinking of. It wouldn't be the first time a flying college boy ignored sage advice.

Check out the smaller Zanotti safes. Take 'em apart to move 'em... LINK I have a Stack-On & it makes me nervous every time I leave the house... It's gonna be a Zanotti for me soon! Until then the alarm and boobie traps will have to work!

| they apparently fixed the bic pen problem. i think that homak went out of business though. luckily, i picked up the last one at my local sports authority. it was on clearance. as for the security aspect, it works good enough for now. i have it bolted to the wall in 6 places, so it aint goin anywhere. robbers would have to get past my glock first. ( i could be wrong about the goin out of business thing...thats just what i heard) |
