I really like this new Sheriff. "Clarke said the actions of the suspect and of the deputy were under investigation. "Reasonableness (by sheriff's deputies) is expected to be used in every case," Clarke told Channel 4. "I have to see the tape in full to make that determination as the investigation unfolds."" This after a chase where the perp rammed a marked Sheriff's Office Chevy Tahoe, flipping it on the roadway. http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/jan03/109054.asp |

I second that... He's a nice counter-force to Chief Jones... Most recently related to this incedent, was his appearance at a forum called to question the use of 'excessive force' in arresting the car thief. As we saw in the video, he was put on the ground, a deputy put his foot on the suspect's neck, well others handcuffed him and hauled him off. The suspect was black, and the local 'community' began crying racisim and police brutality. The Sheriff, in a refreshing trend for Milwaukee, apparently has very little tolerance for race-card-playing, and came to the meeting they called ready to defend his department. If any of you saw it on TV, his first question was 'How many of you think the deputy who put his foot on the suspect's neck was racist?' Everyones hands go up. Sheriff pulls out a picture of the arresting officer (also black). Hands go down quite fast... Then, he wrote a letter to Charlie Sykes (for non WI people, our local-talk-radio version of Rush L (just a little less hard-nosed and X-file-ish)) criticising the local 'community' leaders for their actions (news story here: http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/jan03/112208.asp)... I like this guy (since he seems to understand the 'lets quit using race as a political lever' message, and such). |

I posted that link earlier but my thread title lacked charisma.....;-) This guy rocks, I thought the board would be all over it. I would like to see Sheriff Clarke getting some supportive emails. I am going to send him one. I wonder why nobody here is interested? |

Quoted: Deputy rams suspect, ends dramatic chase Jan. 8, 2003 - 6 p.m. CT A suspect led police on a chase from Glendale into Racine County late Wednesday afternoon before being rammed by a squad car on I-94. SGB, maybe I misread it, but in the paper I believe it said that although permission had just been given for Deputy Worden to initiate a forced stop, before he could act the perp swerved and pushed the S.O. Tahoe into the guardrail, flipping it over. A lot of departments would have immediately made the statement "our officers acted properly"....Clarke instead says "Reasonableness (by sheriff's deputies) is expected to be used in every case,"....."I have to see the tape in full to make that determination as the investigation unfolds." He still stands behind his men 100% until the investigation is complete. And I have no doubt, if something was done improperly, he WOULD act appropriately. AND THEN, at the meeting called by the black community's leadership to investigate the JBT tactics of "the man", he shoves their hypocrisy right in thier face, calls them on the carpet for the Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton wannabes they are, and SHOWS them what a leader is. Fuckin A! If he is as much of a leader as he appears, I would follow him anywhere. It's too bad the black community is going to castrate him. |
