My husband and I are considering reference checking each other, acting as the other's prospective employer, just to see if our former coworkers/supervisors are putting out a bad word for us.

Do any of you all hire people at your work, and if so, what are the standard questions that you ask former bosses?

Most companies will only give hire date and last employed date.  Some will CONFIRM salary but you must give the number.

In smaller companies, you may get more information by keeping things on an informal basis.

Well I already know one of my former managers isn't very by-the-book (confidentiality-wise) so I have to wonder what all he says about me to future employers...
