My current is a NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX which is about 3 years old, I need one with good graphics and I like to play games once in awhile. I prefer to spend less than $250. I currently have a Dell 24" monitor running 1920 x1200 DVI-D ETA: I found these, what do you think? I have a PCI Express x16 on my Dell XPS 720 w/ 750 watt power supply, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and 4gb RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434 EVGA 896-P3-1255-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130475 EVGA 896-P3-1170-AR GeForce GTX 275 896MB 448-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card |

You should post your other specs, like cpu, ram, and psu. toms Hardware is also a great resource, every month they report on the best gpu's for the money. edit: from reading the specs the 275 just has a slightly higher core and memory clock. But you could easily achieve that through over clocking, so I would go with the 260. It'lll be a huge upgrade over your old card. enjoy |

Quoted: Also look at the Radeon 4870 and 4890. You may want to wait a month or so; ATI will be releasing the 5800 series, and nVidia will likely cut their prices, since their 300-series hardware is not ready yet. with the new cards coming out, how much of a price drop do you expect on the NVIDIA cards? The price for the 275 is $220 iirc? |

Should be plug and play. Get the newest drivers just in case. Yep, pop in the slot, plug in the 2 power connectors and your set. i was curious to why my old GeForce 7900 GTX doesn't require the 2 molex power connectors and the new 275 does? GPU on the 275 is much more powerful then the 7900 so it sucks up alot more juice. Most if not all the newer high end cards take 2. It also runs pretty hot if your case has any unused fan mounts put fans in them. |

Quoted: can i assume correctly with the new 275 graphics card that the gradients will be a lot smoother in video games? and what else can i see a noticeable difference compared to my old 7900GTX? If the gradients aren't caused by dithering on your monitor then it should improve. Otherwise crank it up to 16x ansiotropic filtering and 4-8x anti-aliasing if you didn't have it already turned on. |
