Sliced my finger pretty good and the wife wants me to go and get it stitched. What is the rule on stitches?

It bled pretty bad, blood dripping on the floor and it took about 10 minutes to finally quit gushing. The cut is about 1/2 inch long and pretty deep, I cut it with one of my chef's knives.

Please help!

1. Super glue your finger.
2. Wife file for divorce and find a man that's not a pussy.
3. Post pics of ex wife.

Did a similar type cut along my thumb with a razor knife while cutting insulation.  Let it bleed for a bit, flushed it, wrapped it...figured I'd butterfly it but, the boss made me go to the ER.  Got there and the doc looked at it, told me I already had it pretty much taken care of.  He slapped a bit of glue on it and out the door I went.

Yeah.  Squirting blood is generally bad.

More important that bleeding would be the presence of nerve or tendon damage.  I value my hands and so I would have it looked at if I were in your shoes.

whats the procedure for superglue? do you put it on the inside of the wound, or on top of it after its squeezed together?

If it stops bleeding on it's own you don't need stitches.  I mean, medically speaking.  You might have a smaller scar if you get stitches.

Top after it's cleaned/flushed and the edges are together.

It's really fun when the doc calls a resident over to see how all the tendons and ligaments look when you move your thumb.

Funny thing is, I didn't get stitches for that one.  I did get a cast up to my elbow, though.

Wrong. Bleeding will kill you. Tendon damage will make it hard for you to shuffle cards.

Yeah, sounds like you misspoke.  Then again, I'm used to dealing with cuts like that with friends, myself, and family.  My left hand has never learned how to dodge properly.

Yeah, not worthy of stitches. I only get stitches if something is hanging off.

Bandaid and neosporin for a couple days. Take off bandaid after that and let dry. Forget about it.

I actually did use Viva towels and a bit of duct tape so I could finish making my sushi. I kept pressure on it the whole time and when I was done I took the towel and tape off so that I could check it and clean it and it went right back dripping blood.

Every time I take pressure of it starts bleeding again. It sucks because it is small but fairly deep. Not the worst cut I have had by any means but it does hurt.

A handy thing to know is that most urgent care facilities will do stitches.  No need for ER or DR. office.  You will get in and out of the place quicker too.
