I'm hoping I can tap into the collective intelligence/wisdom out there.

As a child, I was told by my father that I have a half-sister from a previous marriage of his.  He died in 1976 having told me precious little about her and leaving very little evidence behind.  I know her name, I know when and where my father married her mother (April 1942 in Las Vegas), her mother's maiden name and that they lived in Las Vegas when my sister was 5 years old.  I only know roughly when she was born; probably between 1942 and 1950 with the mid 40s the most likely.  For reference, I was born in 1959.

Anyway, how do you find someone with such scant information?  That's all there is and there are no living relatives of mine who would know anything about it nor do I think my sister would even be aware of my existence.  My father made a habit of starting families and then bailing on them.

Anyone a private eye out there?

Thanks.

My wife found her twin sister by looking in the births section of the town newspaper from that day. She found her 1 day later once she had the name.

I assume your wife was adopted and separated from her sister at or near birth.  I'm afraid I don't have my sister's birthdate or even birth year.  Since I live in Nevada's capitol, I went down to the state office of vital records and statistics to try to do a search, but they told me unless you are the person or the person's parents, they won't give you any information at all.  I guess in this age of identity theft that's what you are going to run into.

Go here, you can order a copy of the marriage liscense.  The liscences before 1984 are not on the web.

No linky, but I have ordered a copy of the marriage license and marriage certificate from the Clark County Clerk and Recorder's offices.  We'll see if I get anything.  It will be more than 60 years old though.

Thanks.

Anyone in Alabama, Montgomery area?

Reason I ask is my father lived and died down there before I ever met him. He and my mom split when I was 5 weeks old and I never saw him before he died. In fact I was 19 and in AIT when I found out that he had died through the VA. I did a search on his name and even spoke to whom I believe was his widow. At the time I spoke with her I didn't know that he has passed on and had no idea that she was probably "the one". I have 4 half brothers and sisters and half of my medical history that I don't even know about. If anyone knows, please drop me an IM. I've tried US Search with less that spectacular results.

Paper:

I've tried something similar to that.  No results as of yet.  I was hoping some of you "Rocket Scientists" out there had some brilliant ideas.  I've thought about finding her for a long time but have been stumped as to how to go about it.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

Good luck!

Stirring the pot again today.  I know there are some really clever people on this board (at least relative to me).  I will entertain (or be entertained by) even half-assed ideas.

My dad started setting up franchises also (credit to Tyler Durden for analogy)

Worked it out now, but very confusing as a child

Franchises, I like that.  My dad died when I was 17 and only now at age 45 am I figuring out what an asshole he was, at least to previous franchises (5 children in two marriages before me).  He was always good to me, though as tail-end Charley.

Try:

Amazing what you can dig up, although a lot of the older records are not in databases.

Good luck.
