A Wall St. whiz who headed a $200 million hedge fund was gunned down Sunday in his posh East Side apartment during a fight with his 30-year-old son, who remains on the loose, cops said. Thomas Gilbert Sr., the 70-year-old founder and president of Wainscott Capital Partners, was shot in the head during the violent encounter with his son, Thomas Gilbert Jr., police added. Police said Gilbert was dead at the scene from the single gunshot wound from a Glock 22 .40-caliber handgun, which was recovered by cops inside the apartment, officials said. Way to go NYC!

At thirty years old, one should be mature enough not to fly off into a rage and kill someone like that.

Oh, and as long as sonny boy was well connected enough for a NYC permit. |

I figured there would have been more homicides by now. I am disappoint.

Was the handgun legally owned and by who? Did the owner have a concealed carry permit in NYC?
Just wondering about who is permitted concealed carry or a permitted to have a handgun permit in Manhattan. It's a sad story regardless. Nobody should die by the hand of their son. But how the laws of that place come into play is legitimate question.. |

I wonder if the guy was told he wasn't going to inherit anything and flipped. Amazing to go from potentially inheriting millions and millions and being set for set for life to instantly getting life in prison.
Amazing what people can throw away- if he was still set to inherit everything the dad was 70. At 30, the guy was probably only a few years away from being set for life. |

Maybe the kid finally figured out dad was a thieving asshole, and did what needed to be done.
Just sayin'. |

gun probably came from the south. they should make some more laws to prevent these tragedies.

View Quote As someone who, through twists along life's path have been around a few dysfunctional affluent families, I'm surprised that type of thing doesn't happen to the wealthy more often. Families infected by affluenza can create monsters as bad as or worse than any fsa "baby dindu muffin" crack head ever put out. I know of a 40 yr old felon who I am surprised hasn't murdered his jet setting father yet. He asks his dad for help (money) and in an effort to keep him out of jail and off the streets, the father puts completely reasonable conditions on any "help" he gives and the son goes ape shit. The guy seriously needs to be institutionalized but I guess it is hard to have crazy people put away anymore. The family curently pays a "mentor" to babysit him but it is an exercise in futility. |

I voting son found out it was a PONZI scheme and confronted Dad
