No, I have a wonderful wife and a decent home and land that's paid for, but I don't care about anything except my wife.

I want to travel and see the world, but she loves animals so I'm a fucking slave to animals and do nothing I want to do.

Guess I'll have lots of regrets on my death bed, even though I'm pretty blessed I don't feel fulfilled or happy most days, yes, my testosterone has been tested and is 850 something.

Feeling sorry for myself today for some reason, but I have an absolutely amazing life with a wife 99% of the world would kill for she loves me way more than I'll ever deserve.

@zukguy

You know, it's perfectly reasonable to take seperate vacations if you have responsibilities you can't both leave for a while. I've done loads of scuba/snorkel/skydive trips solo, vegas with the brother, currently planning a trip to drive Nürburgring in a GT3 with a coupla buddies, and a whisky tasting tour of Japan with my whisky nerd bud.

All things i want to do, which the wife has no interest in, or we cant do together because of kids/animals.

She also does trips with friends while i mind the ranch.

I've seen some shit and I'd like to think my life has been interesting, but I know a lot of people that have had way more interesting lives than mine.  Especially after getting married and having kids, it's been pretty vanilla.  I have a feeling everything is going to get interesting again very soon whether we like it or not.

TechGal read my mind.  It's been good enough.   I've kissed pretty women, had cocktails with friends,  fished, hunted, road lots of motorcycle, saw things and places.  Doing well in a career I stumbled into.

Have grandbabies.   It's all good.

I've been very fortunate in life. But now that I'm older and able to enjoy life even more, I'm taking advantage of it. Things can be thrown away or lost but adventures will remain with you forever.

For 30 years I made my living on, in, and under the ocean. I loved it, chose my career path because of it. Then one day I realized I was living on borrowed time. Things had changed and every trip I realized coming home to my family was becoming less likely. So I threw an oar over my shoulder and marched inland until someone asked why I was carrying a shovel. I threw down the shovel in this place and it's probably where I'll die.

We might be neighbors. I'm in the palouse.

@TNC

We're a couple hours away from one another, I live near Spirit Lake Idaho which is about an hour North of Spokane.

I lived on the coast of Washington for 40 years and loved it, but the politics of the state just got to us after a while. Now my 21ft jet boat that I used for salmon fishing hasn't been started in 4 years, and I haven't touched a fishing pole in that time either. I just don't enjoy fishing fresh water much at all, saltwater fishing is fun because you just never know what you'll pull out of the water, not to mention the crab and all the other amazing things a guy can find out there. I keep hoping the state will unscrew itself so I can move back home, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

If you ever want to get together let me know and I'll come into town and have lunch or whatever works out.

Oddly enough, I've been thinking about this a lot. I'm in my mid-30s and feel like I've wasted my life.

Other than being in bands in my teens to mid-20s, I haven't done anything.

Started working a blue-collar job in my teens, stayed there (for 15-years) and didn't go to college.

Spent my weekends going to shows and getting drunk at the houses of the same few people.

Been with my wife since we were 18. We're now in a "Stay together for the kids" phase.

Haven't been further than 850-miles from my birthplace.

Threads like this should remind us about our good fortune as we don't have daily worries about threats to our physiological and safety needs while we willingly pursue our self-actualization, per Maslow's hierarchy.

Interesting?  To some but not to others, really depends on who's listening.
Death by misadventure was what I expected to be on my death certificate.
Shockingly it will probably be natural causes now.

Human civilization is at an interesting point. We have enough technology and wealth to sit with ourselves and actually think about things.

It seems like when a lot of people were forced to do this during the Covid lockdowns it had a great deal of unexpected negative effects.

Of course the answer that most on this site seem to gravitate to is that we need to turn the clock back to somewhere between the Iron and Stone Age where everyone was too busy either toiling to get just enough food to live or too busy running from various dangerous predators to worry about the psychological issues slowly consuming their souls. That the only thing Ted Kaczynski did wrong was that he should have had an army of tens of thousands to carry out his plans...

Was born into a good, hard-working family in rural South Georgia.  Dad grew up tough but right on a tobacco farm and gave me a good work ethic when it came to working hard and earning where I wanted to go.  He was a very loving man, but tougher than woodpecker lips and didn't raise any fools or pussies.  My Dad was one of the finest Men I've ever met.  My Mom did one hell of a job having a loving home for us.  Three brothers kicking the shit outta each other on the daily HAD to be draining AF.

I decided chasing badguys was going to be my profession as a teenager and since diving was one of my hobbies growing up, I decided that I wanted to be a Frogman for Uncle Sam.  Did that for 20 years with some of the finest Americans.  Absolute Brotherhood of a Community and friends for life.  Fucking brutal price of entry though (rather do Fallujah again than BUD/S Lol!) as well as lifestyle that I still feel in my bones today.  Knees are absolutely crushed, but my slight Pimp Limp in the morning is a badge of honor.

Chapter two was chasing badguys in Arizona as a cop. Worked some high-octane assignments like SWAT and fugitive task force work. Still feel like I had more to do, but the Big Guy decides when His path for you is finished, and it's time to hang it up. Retired as a detective.  Lots of lifelong friends as well.

Now, after two careers of moving at 100mph hunting evil (and taking some time to shit-can the booze), I get woken up every morning by some cold noses to get some chow, then I sip coffee, watch the sunrise while I say my thank yous to Heavenly Father and count my Blessings.  Name them one by one. I know that I'm Blessed that I'm still alive.  I have a great relationship with my Daughter, and my former step kids still call me "Dad". Guess I did something right in that department too.  Had a hell of a role model.

My goal now is to live a Peaceful Life until my Creator calls me Home.  Life has been damn good to me.

Doesn’t feel like it but it sounds good.

Grew up on a ranch, worked horseback, rode bulls until I was 21.

Worked oilfield, refineries, pipelines until was 32.

Got married to a Mexican woman, have a place down in Jalisco.

Work now as an ag pilot, make a living flying off of backcountry dirt strips.

I would say so. Especially for someone who didn't set out to do such things.

I've met/know some really interesting people who have done some great things.
I've been involved with some amazing projects and led teams that have literally changed the way people interact and do things. (Although some of those things have had unintended consequences I'd say).

It's been a fun ride !!  And I am not done yet !

When I tell people all I have done they ask "how old are you ? "

There was a British actor that was asked on his deathbed, " what did you do with all your money?"  He answered "fast cars, travel, beautiful women, fine dining... and the rest I wasted. "

Pretend this was your last breath, what would you change? Then do it !

@zukguy It's a date. I'm about an hour south of Spokane so that seems a good place to meet up. I hear you on the WA politics. I moved there in 2005 because the gun laws looked a lot better than CA, I remember when folks on this board worked to get suppressors and SBR's for us, and I worked to fight the onslaught of new laws but we simply got out-spent.

@TNC
I've spent thousands trying to get the laws to just stay the way they used to be, and like you got my ass handed to me. It'll always be home, but I won't go back unless things change.

We're pretty busy for the next month, but after that I'd love to get together, it would be nice to meet some people around here. All we do is work and sleep it seems, so just hanging out for a couple hours would be a fun break. I'll stay in touch, but if I forget for some reason, shoot me a pm.

Talk with you soon.

Seems like the perfect timing and subject for an initial post.

Fairly interesting but not as much as some.

Great wife (37 years), great kid, great DIL, great grandkid and another on the way.

Great friends, almost all customers or coworkers.

Sold over a half billion dollars of computer chips in my recently ended career.   Sales is great place to go if you have a 2.2 GPA in electrical engineering...

Lost millions in the 2001 tech wreck, made some of it back.

Could have been filthy rich if I had moved to CA.  Even in hindsight, wasn't worth it.  Would have had to pretend to be a socialist for decades to fit in.  Tech is as bad as they make it sound.

Lots of first class travel, golf, best steaks, wines and bourbons - all on expense accounts.

Got to take care of the parents when it was my time to take care of them.

Only one regret, we could only have one kid.

Been blessed.
