I just stumbled across this unheard of brand dual fuel genset on Amazon and wanted to see what the tribe thinks?

I might be wrong but I would guess you will only get 17.5A per side because it is recommended that you balance the 120v loads when using 240v output. I am sure someone will come along that can answer that more definitively. edit: I have found a few references that say it depends upon the windings of the generator and that some smaller generators can go from parallel to series in which case you could probably get the maximum rated output in 120v. No generator is going to output 70A at 120V. They'll be limited to 20A per plug at most. Same thing for 240 - unless the generator specifically has a 14-50R, you more than likely have a L14-30R and that's limited to 30A total. |

Received a Buffalo Sportsman 1000i from WalMart today.
Opened the generator box, found a generator box inside. In the 2nd box was a generator packed in foam and papers/accessories. It looks like they planned the packaging for abuse by FedEx/UPS, but my outer box was in near mint condition when FedEx dropped it off. Came with 12v jumper cable with spring clamps for boosting a car battery at 12v 4A, a surprisingly nice phillips screwdriver (needed to remove sidecover to access oil fill), a really cheap stamped steel spark plug wrench, and a paper oil fill funnel. I only see one external screw on the carburetor, appears to be a throttle stop adjustment. Haven't removed the carb or air filter, but at first glance it does not look like I'm going to be able to adjust the high speed fuel mixture as I'd hoped. Comes with CO alert, which I wasn't expecting. Supposed to auto shut down for the following issues: High CO reading. Failure of CO alert system. (this is the part I don't like, might reduce the effective service life of the generator) Low oil level. Overload (defined in the manual as high inverter temperature or low output voltage). I'm wondering if cheaper power transistors ended up being sourced for production, causing the inverter to overload at lower than rated wattage. Might be one of those things that reaches full power in freezing weather but shows reduced power limits in the summer. Actual testing to follow later. |

Buffalo Sportsman 1000i first test run:
(over) filled it with 10oz of 15W40. Temp 34F. Altitude about 700' above MSL. After ten minutes of idle time, did some load tests. No load= 124-125V, 59.8Hz (utility power reads 59.9Hz, so my Kill-A-Watt probably reads a tenth off) 400W load=122V, 59.8Hz (hair dryer on low, 1350W high setting kills generator instantly) 730-735W load=118-118.4V, 59.8Hz, red overload light blinking continuously. (heat gun on low) 770-775W load=115.5-116V, 59.8Hz, red light still blinking (heat gun plus 75W light bulb). Best that I can tell, it's limited by motor horsepower. After break in, I hope I can get over 750W at 118V or better. Simply running a lower oil level might increase output a bit. But that's with cold dense air. A 90 degree summer day might be a lot different. Drained the oil after testing. Won't put that much in it again, but wanted to make sure plenty of oil got to the valve train on first run. Oil got pretty dark in 20 minutes but wasn't frothy. Will fill with 7.5oz and run it for a half hour tomorrow. Once it gets cleaned up inside, I'll put 5W30 synthetic in it and change every 25 hours. Edited to add 2nd test run: 7.5oz of 10W30 isn't really more power than 10oz of 15W40. Crankshaft windage with a full oil sump doesn't seem to be a big deal, so I'm not sure why they lowered the oil capacity specification. If it was rated 750W continuous 800W peak I'd give it five stars. 750W @ 118V is fine. Voltage dropoff beyond 750W is extreme compared to voltage loss at 750W. |

Picked up a Rainier R2200i a few months ago. Nice little inverter, kinda like a cheaper Honda. When I got it unboxed, oiled and gassed, it started on the first pull!
But now it's gotten to where I pull on the little sucker 12 or 15 times before it'll start. I pulled the plug and it looked clean and not oily or coked. It's only got about 3 hours on it, since I've just started it monthly for 15-20 minutes to keep it oiled and gas running through the carb. Anyone else got one of these? Got any suggestions? I have this generator and I'm trying to figure out what amperage transfer switch I should buy. Gasoline Starting Amps at 120V...37.5A Gasoline Running Amps at 120V...30.4A Propane Starting Amps at 120V...37.5A Propane Running Amps at 120V...27.4A So do I need a 30 amp switch, or should I bump up to a 50 amp switch? I would think I need a 50 amp switch, but I'm not an electrician. |

I have two Honda 2000s and got the remote caps and hoses to use with two 3 gal outboard engine tanks. A couple years later I needed to use and the hoses were cracked and useless. |

I agree it is somewhat dangerous without a regulator. I run a Predator 3500 on natgas through a NashFuel trifuel kit with a regulator so it is on demand only.
That said, natgas is lighter than air and does not pool on the ground or in depressions like propane or gasoline fumes, so the video is in error in that regard. It could easily create an explosive hazard inside your genset or an enclosed area like a sound box. Also, the pressure from your meter is generally less than .2psi and is piped directly to your appliances at that pressure. They may contain some form of regulator, I am certainly no expert. |

Was trying to find a extended run solution for the 2K Predator generator. Will a cap and gravity feed system work?

Just want to give a shout out to whoever posted the Pulsar inverter 2300w $399 deal on Black Friday. Done a couple break in cycles and oil changes when I got it, and put it away. Thanks to the 80mph wind gusts Friday, we’ve been without power since 830 Friday. Being able to have refrigerator, tv, light, and a coffee pot has been great, the wife and little one thinks I’m a hero 🤣

Has anyone ever replaced an outlet in a generator? Mine has a TT-30R and I would like to swap it with a L5-30R.

We're outside La Grange, KY and have been without power since Friday afternoon. I bought the same Pulsar 2300W generator and it has been running since Friday afternoon. Saving our ass for sure! I've been running refrigerator, TV, Internet router, chicken heater (400 W), various lamps, phone chargers, wood burning stove fan, etc. No problems. I've shut it down twice now to check the oil, and I haven't lost any- and the oil still looks brand new. I was going to pull the spark plug just to give it a wire brush, but I can't get it out- the socket wont fit as there is plastic shielding in the way. Have you had your spark plug out? How'd you get it out? |
