Glad to see they are tackling the real important issues.

County supervisors in California have proposed that toys included in fast-food restaurant meals for kids be banned, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Officials in Santa Clara are convinced that luring kids into eating foods with high sugar, sodium and fat by using toys will make them overweight and cause long term health problems.

This proposal is believed to the first of this type, and would ban the inclusion of a toy in any kids meal with more than 485 calories, 600 mg of salt, or high amounts of sugar or fat. These guidelines would cause all McDonald’s happy meals—even those with apple sticks instead of French fries—to be served without a toy.

Supporters of the ban argue that it will force restaurants to offer nutritious foods to kids. Others have said this is another case of the government getting too involved in parenting decisions.

Well, with the craziness going on in the neighboring counties like Alameda (Oakland), and SF, guess they felt like they needed to play catch up

But the same state wants to allow fast food restaurants to take food stamps.  Makes no sense.

This really makes me wonder if one could get California to subsidize a program whereby children would receive free ponies or home entertainment systems with a meal of sawdust made from organic tree bark.

Ban toys or don't ban toys. But do NOT put some random number on the rule to say this is " too much or too little."  Because no matter what that number is, it will be wrong a year from now.

Please be sure to follow up with the failure of this proposal later on.

You people believe we can't drive dark cars, have our tire pressure regulated, and think the government remote controls my thermostat already!''

This crap doesn't even get proposed elsewhere, at least not to the degree it occurs in California.

Yeah I'm sure the kid drives himself there to get the food  and toy of choice. BTW most kids that load up on fast food everyday have fat ass lazy parents that eat 2 combo meals per sitting and a 64oz diet coke, cuz all thems sugars are bad for you.

One of my employees admits to not knowing how to cook( mother of 3 ) They spend $150 per week on fastfood; burgers, tacos, pizza, chicken.

Yup...  If the county 'bans' fast food toy's, the restaurants won't give two shits.  They'll pass out a memo to the burger joints in town to not put the toy's in with the meals; they won't change the food over a ten cent lump of plastic.    Too much expense to change the entire formula of 'cook it in grease' to fit the whims of a locality.  The county will gain nothing, save for a few dollars less in food tax because of people not taking Junior and Suzie to McBurger Bell for a hamburger and toy.

yeah this is what you get when goverment runs your healthcare, they'll start looking everywhere to save a buck, and regulating pre-prevention measures is a great option, because it will give them more power over buisness and personal lives.
