I need to buy two sets of cuffs for upcoming job. I have heard that Peerless and S&W are generally good. Does anybody have any opinions and places where they are inexpensive and ship fast, really fast?

Thanks

When I need something overnight, or 2nd day air, I order from galls.com
U cant go wrong with both although I liked my S&W cuffs better.

S&W and Peerless are both good cuffs.  Personally, I prefer my S&W over Peerless as they just seem to be smoother after they are broken in.

I have had good luck with fast shipping from Copquest.  Just contact them prior to ordering to make sure they have what you need in stock.

All my cuffs are S&W for no reason other than I like the location of the double lock switch better than peerless. both are high quality. If I was ordering I would just look on line for the best price but I tend to buy all my stuff locally (luckily I have two police supply shops with in 1/2 drive of my house).

I have one pair of Peerless and one pair of S&W. I use the Peerless for adult men and the S&W for women and juvis. I also 2nd Galls... they may be a little more expensive on certain items, but they have a metric shit ton of stuff in stock, so shipping is fast

I use both Peerless and S&W.  I also second Galls.

ASP handcuffs are crap. If you don't believe me, cut a pair up and see how much metal is actually under all that plastic.

I like the Peerless brand myself.  I have a bunch of S&W and Peerless brand.  The Peerless just feel like better quality, smoother and I like the double lock location.  I have only handled the ASP cuffs but never used them.  Good luck!

When I was an officer I preferred S&W hinge cuffs.  I used Peerless hinge cuffs but they didn't hold up.  Never had a problem with the Smiths.  I carried them for about 10 years.

I love the S&W.................one of the instructors at my academy worked for S&W for a long time and of course he know why and how the others were judged.
I have a few friends in corrections and they seem to swear by the S&Ws. They say that the cons that know how, can break the peerless and the galls and the asp brands pretty easy.......and they know how to
break your fingers when you hold them by the chain while putting the second cuff on from behind! lol just some things to consider.

I prefer Peerless.  I like the double lock button that can be pressed with the point of a pen.  S&W and ASP have to have a key to double lock.  Just me taking the easy way out but it's so quick and easy to hit the double lock on the Peerless with a pen.  Plus, I had one S&W before and it was fussy on the key it took to unlock it (it probably was a defective set of cuffs) but I've been turned off to S&W cuffs ever since.  I do have one set of ASP chain cuffs as my extra set in the car.  I've used it once during a hot call and I wasn't all that impressed with trying to get the plastic double lock to slide over while at night, under stress, and dealing with the drunk they were attached to.  Also, they just don't seem as smooth as a good set of broken in Peerless cuffs.

Just my two cents.

Our inmates have been popping the double lock on the peerless and then pushing the cuffs on really tight.  That way when they end up in court they can cry to the judge about how tight the cuffs are and how mean the corrections guys are treating them.  It worked for the first couple until someone reveiwed the video and watched them do it.  I will stick with the S&W, but was thinking about the ASP's...

@40xb-shooter:
IM me your address (home or work) and I'll send you a set or two of both brands and you can make up your mind for yourself.  When you're done with them, just send 'em back.

I use Peerless. Do you have a regular FFL you go to? They can usually order LE supplies along with guns through their wholesalers at a decent price.

One more suggestion, if all your going to have is 2 cuffs (and not any extras in your car), get one hinged and one chained.  The chains usually go a little smaller and it's nice for females with small wrists.  As side before, my extra set are ASP cuffs (chained) just for that purpose.  The two on my belt are hinged, I figure if I have a female I can always swtich cuffs on her back at the car.  Just my two cents.

Easy to do if you have a good solid ledge or table that you can hit the top of your wrists against while wearing cuffs.

I prefer Peeless cuffs. They will fit a greater range of people and for the way I cuff I prefer the double locking pin.
In the winter with all the layers people wear it can be difficult to get to the bar on the Smith cuffs.
The Smiths will fit smaller wrists and I carry a couple pair in my bag.

I've only had one pair of cuffs "break" and that was the pin the cuff key fits over fell out.
Sent them back to Peerless and had them back in about a week.

Regardless of which manufacturer you chose I believe hinged is the only way to go.

I have two sets of S&W cuffs. The ones on the left were given to me back in the 1970s (and may not have been new back then) but I have no idea what vintage they are (no model number on them). The ones on the right I got in the late 1990s and are M-100s. Seems to me that the ones on the left are a lot more solidly built than the ones on the right (current models) and the double-lock pin is on the edge of the cuffs.

http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/S_W_Cuffs_001.JPG for a much larger picture (too big to post here) with more detail.

If anyone can ID the model number or vintage of the cuffs on the left, I'd appreciate it.

I still carry a set of single chain cuffs but i much prefer the hinged cuffs, it just seems like they go on so much quicker and u have a lot more control.

I used to carry Peerless 700 until for some reason, the spring on one cuff got progressively weaker, and eventually it broke. I sent it back to Peerless, and they fixed it for free, but now the other side is fubar. There was a colleague who also had a similar experience with his. I've also noticed that there are noticeable inconsistencies in the action with Peerless. Some are stiff while others are smooth.

I switched to the S&W M100 which have always felt smooth or "broken-in", and as mentioned, access to the double lock from either side is positive and easier than push-pin.

If you want something different, The Handcuff Warehouse sells "Winchester" brand stainless steel cuffs which are NIJ certified. I picked up two pair and was intending on using them, but they're really nice and I think I'll just keep them as collectables.

I prefer the S&W's M&P cuffs. The double lock is a lever at the top, you don't need to use the back of the key and you don't have to bend down to get them to double lock.

I have 2 Peerless and 2 Hiatts both are hinge and 1 pair of S&W chains. The Hiatts are by far the best and smoothest. Hiatts are triple bar hinge while the peerless have a double bar hinge. Both have the same size openings but the Hiatts have 3 more teeth than the Peerless so they close as small as my S&Ws. Out of the box the Haitts are way smoother that the clunky Peerless.

I've played with a couple of ASP but just can't get around how flimsy they feel. Lots of guys I work with love the ASP but I'll stick with my Hiatts, they're what I carry on my belt and the Peerless stay in my bag till needed.

The S&Ws are like silk but I preferr hinge over chains. I might pick up a set or 2 of their hinge cuffs.
You never can have to many sets of cuffs.

OP,
I've got three sets of cuffs going in the mail for you tomorrow (1 Peerless and 2 S&W).  If I can find another set of Peerless, I'll send 'em as well.  Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten.  Been busier than a tornado in a Texas trailerpark.
