Hammer Time Sep 28, 2006 9:50 pm US/Central Fort Worth Store Clerk Survives Hammer Attack (CBS 11 News) FORT WORTH Police say a store clerk in Fort Worth was attacked by a man wielding a hammer. The woman survived a dozen blows, but her attacker is still on the loose. Police have released surveillance video from Alondra’s Food Store, hoping someone will recognize the attacker. The victim, Lucy Milan, is only 20-years-old but her courage is amazing. “I stopped struggling. I thought he would stop hitting me if I stopped struggling,” she said. It was Saturday afternoon when Milan was working alone at her father's convenience store on College Avenue, in Fort Worth. Surveillance video shows a man walking up to the counter and talking to Milan. The young girl was already on edge, because that same man had come in the store twice that day. “Before I knew it he was behind the counter. I told him he can’t be back there; he said why not when he was saying that he pulled out the hammer,” Milan said. The man demanded money but didn't even wait for the woman to get it. Over and over again he beats her with the hammer. Before he's done, he notices the surveillance camera, hits it several times with the hammer and continues to beat Milan more. Milan’s dad, Jose, says nothing like this has ever happened. While he says they have been robbed before, there was never any violence. Now the business owner says the doors of his store will shut for good. “Store's closing and we'll probably sell our house and find some place else to live.” After being hammered 12 times Milan's injuries include – a couple of broken fingers, a gash requiring 10 stitches, and some cuts and bumps. The young girl says she has guardian angels to thank for her life. Milan believes they were there to help her. Some may question the guardian angel’s belief, but Milan’s attacker couldn’t even get the cash register open and left empty handed. Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact Fort Worth Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 817- 469-TIPS. (CBS 11 News) Of course this could all be prevented with a 7 day cooling off period prior to the purchase of any hammer unless, of course, one received training and obtained a Concealed Hammer License, passed a background check, and filled out a bright yellow form in triplicate. Got to keep those children in mind dammit. |
| The news and newspapers used to give a description of the subjects. I've noticed for awhile now they don't do that anymore. Even on the TV if they show the video the newshead will only say something like "police believe that the attacker is a 30-40 year old man". They absolutely are leaving any meaningful description out. Hmmm. |
