Regarding that asshat professor Leanos that made that shitty flyer using Pat Tillman to represent anti-USA political statements.... www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=282650

I recieved a personal response from the Head Honcho of Arizona State University himself...   Of course, it doesn't say anything about the actions taken from ASU except they are seeking to distance themselves from Leanos' political statement and an administrative review has been initiated.

Nice to get a response for a change though. Seems ol' boy is not happy with Mr. Leanos.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding Dr. John Leaños’ recent public display of anti-war posters featuring Cpl. Pat Tillman.  In response, I am compelled to state unequivocally that I personally found Dr. Leaños’ decision to use Pat’s likeness and fictional first-person narrative as the vehicle for his message to be offensive and insensitive to the Tillman family.  Furthermore, I wish to clarify that the ASU administration had no prior knowledge that the posters in question were going to be created or displayed.  In keeping with our university’s longstanding tradition of academic freedom and integrity, a comprehensive administrative review of this matter has already been initiated.

As always, ASU continues to be enormously proud of its affiliation with Pat Tillman.  Pat’s spirit, talent and noble sacrifice represent the very best of ASU and we were fortunate to count him among our Sun Devil family.  Since his untimely passing, ASU has hosted a memorial service in Pat’s honor, joined with the Arizona Cardinals to create the Pat Tillman Memorial Scholarship in the W.P. Carey School of Business, and will soon retire Pat’s jersey (#42) at the ASU/Washington State football game on November 13, 2004.  ASU representatives have also agreed to serve in an advisory capacity to the Pat Tillman Foundation.  As ideas are considered regarding the establishment of a permanent memorial, you can be certain that ASU’s respectful acknowledgement of his memory will continue for many years to come.

Once again, I very much appreciate your direct communication on this issue and your continued allegiance to Pat’s legacy.

My original email from the thread....

Mr. Crow,

John Leanos has overstepped the boundaries of all that is decent with his use of Pat Tillman's image in his anti-war campaign.

I am not communicating with you to debate the war. In this nation, Mr. Leanos is free to make whatever statement he wishes. The sacrifice made by many like Pat Tillman has ensured that freedom.

But, Mr. Leanos is not free from the consequences of making those statements and the Internet provides a phenomenal medium to inform and mobilize people. Mr. Leanos' actions have already hit the radar, and you can expect the volume of protest to increase as ASU falls under tigher scrutiny.

Unless Mr. Leanos has sought permission and agreed to pay the Tillman Estate licensing money for the use of his image, I encourage ASU to strongly examine this infringement and mis-representation of Tillman's intellectual property.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

BenD

Having been a bureacrat  as one of the hats I wore in a couple of jobe I have learned to spot or write burearativ BS if the situation requires.  Let's look at this a little closer

"I am compelled to state I personally found it offensive and insensitive" - NOTICE - NOT THE UNIVERSITY, he personally  hmmm???

"no prior knowledge"  - The Administration had it's head up it's butt and didn't see it coming, but even if they had academic freedom says they can't do anything

Longstanding tradition of Academic Freedom - Means we let the tenured jerks do anything they want, they have tenure so we let them screw up.

A comprehensive review has been initiated - And we sure as hell aren't going to tell you when the review is finished because the University ain't gonna do squat.

Now some people call me cynical but that's how I read that.

Exactly! How could it be a Dupe? Duhhh

Don't you love these people who sit around and yell Dupe all the time? Do you search out a topic every time you create a new one? I was called on dupe when another poster beat me by 3 seconds. In other words when I was writting my post the "original didn't exist.
