Do I need one?

Currently have a Gen4 Glock 17 and a 26. Never owned a USP, reading on here it sounds like the 45acp is the chosen one. God help me, arfcom may cost me more money.

USP 40 V 1 checking in.

I never shoot it.  I really need to change that.

I wish I had gotten the Tactical version now that I have a SiCo Hybrid.

Only gun I know that can shoot 45 Super out of the box. Tough as hell, but do the LEM trigger thing.

You could buy a barrel and recoil assembly and just swap them out.

If you want to change the variant, swap a detent plate for 10$.
It is super easy and takes a minute (if that).

This is the V1+V2 one you want.

1. Yes, you need one.

2. You need one with the light LEM trigger.  Skip the DA/SA.  If you get a deal on a used one, you can covert it, but parts are about $150.  If you are buying one new, then just get LEM to begin with.

I own a bunch of .45's, and the USP 45 is hard to beat.  The only one I like better is my HK 45, which is basically an updated USP.

Get the HK45 instead. I have both and the ergos on the new one are light years ahead of the USP.

I'd rather the Tactical/expert/elite according to preference, or at least the match trigger, but yes you need one. I have the compact 9mm and tactical .45, I'm already considering another USP as they're very nice pistols.

HK45
+ergos
- -2 rounds per magazine
-Not a real USP
-Based on the USPc, so it lacks the "real" USP recoil reduction system

See that's the thing the HK45 isn't a better USP, it's a different pistol with its own pros and cons relative to the USP. It has a much nicer (standardized) accessory mounting method and for the vast majority of shooters it has a lot nicer ergonomics. It also has less rounds per mag at only 10 vs 12, doesn't have the USP recoil system, and generally a grittier trigger made worse by it not having a true match trigger option.

That's not to say the HK45 is a bad gun, just to say it has pros and cons. One day maybe they'll combine the strengths of both, until then I guess one just has to get both!

Nothing wrong with a 357sig one either, except maybe finding one and ammo cost.  But other than those two minor issues, I think they're every bit as useful as the 45 version with a few more rounds.

I have medium hands and the USP in 45 feels about the same in my hand as a Beretta 92FS. I won't argue the "better" ergos of the HK45, except that those "better ergos" put my thumb in the way of the slide release, which prevents empty magazines from locking the action open. Good thing HK copied those ergo's for the P30 and VP pistols.

The grip is sexy, but I've sorta had my fill with my VP, and my planned P30s purchase (to replace my P2k).

I have one Compact in .40 still, and did have a fullsize in .40 too at one point. .40 does shoot really well in them. I still prefer 9 overall, but the .40 Compact is my nightstand gun.
