TLDR: In Richmond area gun store yesterday waiting for Form 4 transfer paperwork and hear from the guy behind the counter: "the difference b/t this AR and that one? (Del-ton/S&W and Daniel Defense) The cheaper one has a melonite barrel and the other a chrome lined barrel. Melonite is the same stuff you see on the outside of the barrel, but on the inside. As an example, say we are shooting a bowling pin at 300Y. The melonite one's bullet would probably not go that far, and if it did, it would take me maybe 300 rounds to hit the target. If I used the chrome lined one, it would take me maybe one or two shots, that's with iron sites, nothing fancy." I left the area to look at other items. |

You expect a rocket surgeon for $8 an hour? Cripes. McDonalds pays $11/hour here. Quoted:
Was he inferring that the chrome lined barrel was like a slip and slide and the melonite one was basically sand paper? Should have asked him what would happen if you used moly coated boolits in the "melonite" barrel. Smoke may have come out of his ear holes. |

| Not easy finding people that actually know guns. I worked in a gun store for over two years and was amazed at the the stupid shit gun owners say. The guy that they hired to replace me told me yesterday that he wished he had bought a Thompson years ago when they could be switched from semi to full auto easy. If the owner hears that, he will be looking for a new guy. |

Gun stores are a never ending source of entertainment, on both sides of the counter.
Second only to the rural Gun Club. We have some dooseys.....we have one young fellow we play a game with, called "How far did you shoot it?" No matter how far your shot, he can top it. My favorite is the deer he killed; iron sights, M29, off hand, 200 yards. |
