There is a store I go to every once in a while.  I have purchased several weapons from them along with other items.  The owner is fun to talk to and we get along.  Prices on somethings are high, but others are inline. I try to support mom and pops so I take the good and the bad.  I figure I pay for the better service (last time I bought ammo at wal-mart I had to wait for 15 minutes for them to find the key).

One time I came in and said I needed a holster for a pistol and he said to bring it in to try em out.  I said that I ordered a suppressor for it and he told me to be careful... anytime you put more than 3 accessories on a weapon it makes it illegal

A few visits later I mention a scout rifle I picked up.  A Marlin .44 lever with a 16 inch barrel.  His eyebrows went sky high! Said to keep my voice down and that was below legal length. (forget the fact that he has a 16 inch barreled AR on his shelf).  I had to explain that shotguns were 18" and rifles were 16" and the whole OAL information.

Now - I get something on GunBroker (Man, funny how guns make you go broker). He said he would really like to see my purchase.  I asked if he does transfers from INDIVIDUALs - he said oh yeah sure.

I win the auction, talk with the out of state seller and he asks if I could include a copy of the stores FFL when I send the payment. I call the shop and ask if they can fax the FFL.  Dude says no-they cant fax it to me - They can fax it to the dealer shipping.  I asked for his number for the EZcheck - no problem.

A half hour later the seller and the store call.  I let the seller go to Vm and talk too the store owner.  Says that he will not do the transfer.  Says the seller is trying to do something illegal by sending the weapon straight to him - he MUST go through an FFL. I tell him thanks and I would take care of it.

I may have paid him my final visit.  I can understand him not WANTING to do a transfer from an individual - but to say it is illegal. Ugh.

Had some similar issues - I wonder how they get and keep a license

Is he just trying to avoid doing the transfer or does he really think it is illegal? It sounds like he may not have a very good understanding of the laws, something which isn't all that uncommon among gunstore owners and employees.

Lots of things come with the assumption of superior knowledge... MA, MD, PhD, Sen., Rep., CEO... in this case FFL.

Just because you package stupid - or ignorant (intended in the innocent sense) - in a fancy wrapper doesn't change what it's made of.
