| Went to the gun show at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. It sucked. Why is it that alot of events only give discounts to LE that are in uniform? I was looking for an ARFX stock. I seen one at the whole show and it was on a 25th Bushy. Never have been real impressed with the show in Tennessee. Any one else go to this one? Best one I have been to was in Indiana. Any one know if they still have them in Indiana?? Guess I will be ordering off the net. |

Went to one today... Looking around, saw stuff that would sell for $75-85 on the internet (Used, dinged up Mausers... I was considering adding one to my collection, but not for $160-200) going for $160-200 (Which would mean 'New and Un-Issued' bought off the net)... One guy had a NICE (mirror bores, bolts still in the grease) rack of captured K98s at a fair price, if I had been looking for a collector's item instead of a 'source of good Mauser parts & a good barrel, never mind the finish' (You don't buy a perfect matching collector's gun to drill the reciever for a scope, swap the stock for a synthetic one, etc)... Saw Norinco butthole-stocked AKs averaging $450-499... There were a few Class-III dealers there, prices were what you'd expect for transferrable MGs... And of course the swords, knives, table-o-mags, ammo cans, patches, 'torch-cut-reciever MG kits' and other such stuff... |
| The internet may be the death of the gunshow as we know it. I live in Tulsa, home of the world's largest show (Wanenmacher's Tulsa Gun Show). Over 7 acres of thousands of tables wedged-in three feet apart. The cheapest I could find an Eotech 552 AA battery type was $450.00! My God! You can beat that price by almost $100.00 on the Equipment Exhange! I've been going to shows for over 20 years and I see the same crap at the same vendor's tables every year. I bet some of the stuff they display has been in their inventory that long too. |

Quoted: Plumers, carpenters, doctors, lawyers, shoe salesmen, and others don't get a discount, so I assume from this you do think your special. I am above paying the same price that the general public pays, because I enforce the law. Thats just mean. Most LEs are under paid for what they do. And the last time I checked plumers, carpenters, doctors, lawyers and shoe salesmen dont use guns when they work. At least the normals ones dont. And you saying selling to LE sucks means you judge all by a few. |
| Not agreeing or disagreeing with DH, but private citizens buy and use many times the amount of guns and ammo that LE do. Going by that, you should pay more if your there as a LE. Now if your representing yourself as a citizen consumer like us, you should get a break. [:D] |
| I see the internet killing a lot of things in the near future and I know it has already hurt things like hamfest, swap meets and flea markets. I dont have a problem paying a few more dollars to support a dealer, but when you cant even find the item the very next, if not the first, place one looks is the internet. What really makes me p!ssy is that fact that most things are higher from the maker and cheaper from the wholesaler. |

The only thing that makes me check locally before ordering a 'new' gun from the 'net is the $50 in additional cost that it takes to get it to me (FFL fee and the fact that $20 seems to be 'normal' S&H for guns...). With a used one (like if I ever go ahead with that Mauser 98 idea), looking at it first is a plus... |

Quoted: Most LEs are under paid for what they do. That is the only part of your post that I can agree with. BUT, on the other hand, didn't you know what the job paid before you chose it as a profession? Some LE folks are so used the whole world kissing their asses that they can't believe it when they are treated like they rest of us. Just because the coffee shop, the donut shack and the car give you freebees, doesn't mean that the rest of the world owes you a free ride. If you're not happy with your pay, do something about it. I know tons of former LE guys who got fed up with the BS and took advantage of the opportunities that this great nation offers it's citizens. Start a private security firm, get your FFL and open a shop, etc. Don't give me the "I do it because I love my job" story, because if that's the case you wouldn't be so bitter about ponying up five bucks to get into a gun show. OK, I'm done now! |
| Well in my first post I asked a simple question and still havent got an answer. Guess no one knows. And I wasnt asking for something for free. I didnt post this to argue about your opinions on LEs getting discounts. I just asked a question and now feel as if I am being attacked cause I tried to save a dollar. If someone offers a discount I take it. But I dont push or harass until I get one. I dont expect it. |

In fact, the FIRST question you asked was: Why is it that alot of events only give discounts to LE that are in uniform? As far as not asking for a discount unless someone offers, I say BULLSHIT! I seriously doubt that you would have found out about their policy on LE discounts unless you asked for one. Remember, YOU started this thread. If you're not prepared to eat worms, don't open the can! |

Quoted: Hamfest???? There are many collectors of ham, bacon, and other pork products. They will often have shows where farmers and collectors can rent tables to trade or sell their products. Sometimes you can find an excellent deal on a pre-ban pork chop or cutlet, but usually its over priced cans of spam (the saturday night special of the pork world) or other unsavory pseudo pork products for sale. Hamfests are generally patronized by those looking to purchase unregistered, non-kosher products through the infamous 'hamfest loophole'. As a cardiologist, I fully support a three day waiting period on all pork products. The hamfest loophole needs to be closed immediatly. |

Don't they shoot dogs in Tennessee? Was the flatfooted fatso from Cookeville there? Seriously, the gun shows that we remember from our past are just that. Nowadays you do better on gunbroker.com. Shame really. As for LE's getting a break- I don't get upset over it. There are a few dozen LEOs from NYC(and elsewhere) that I wish were still around. I'd gladly cough up a few bucks to see them still laughing and browsing the tables... |

HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHa!!! I dont drink coffee. My thread>>>>>> [argue] Whats really funny is I was going to buy a stock just to have it NOW, when I could have ordered one with me FFL. I was only trying to get in the door for a dollar or 2 less. I am not going to deny asking for a discount. But I always ask nice and if I get it good and if I dont thats fine too. I have no ill fate towards any one who says no. |

As DH noted, the attitude from LE seems to be: I am above paying the same price that the general public pays, because I enforce the law. Why do you feel that you are any different than the rest of us mere civilians? |

Quoted: Thats funny. You would ask for one too if you thought you could get it. EXACTLY - you'd better believe that if there was a discount for whatever it is Slash does for a living (notice I didn't make a mean joke here [:)] ), he'd be asking for it as well. Last time I was in Chicago, I discovered that I could get in free because I'm an "educator" (sort of). Cool - you better believe I'm going to ask every museum I go to from now on if there's a discount for educators! Doesn't mean I think I am better than everyone else. |
