Been an officer since 1996 and I can't believe that people actually think AWB laws effect crime.  If your emailing or calling your local Representative or Senator. Please use the real numbers on violent crime here in the US vs posturing on 2nd Ammendment Rights when you write to them. They can't fudge the published statistics from the Agency they determined as a the national authority  on crime reporting.

2011  FBI Uniform Crime Report Statistics.  Violent Crime

Yes knives killed 5 times as many people in 2011 than the entire rifle category. "Assault Weapons" being a smaller undefined portion of the rifle category. Even more startling that more people were bludgeoned to death with hammers and clubs than killed with rifles.

There you go again with those "facts and figures."

Crazy rabbit, they want the emotional basis, not rational.

The AWB isn't about saving lives.

Apparently we should ban knives and clubs. This is pure emotion and bias facts have nothing to do with it, its for the children. Another fact more kids die from child abuse and neglect every week than died at sandy hook.

QFT.

This is about "emotion" and "for the children", mixed in with a desire for statism (on both sides of the political spectrum)

The only thing that will affect those who really matter (the scum who will be voting in Congress and the Senate) is when they and their families feel in some way threatened and feel the risk of voting for more gun laws is too high. Be it primary challenges, voting for (and financially supporting) the other guy, or "other" unmentionable reasons.

Even Hands, Fists and Feet win.

But I have a question.   Would strangulation or drowning fit just as well under hands and feet?

Okay two questions.   There is another firearm category of "firearms not stated" so what percent would you give to that, the same ratio of handguns to rifles?

The courts will see all this but it will mean little in the average media piece.

Blunt objects, and hands and feet kill more people than rifles.
