I just installed an ATI-Radeon x1650pro graphics card, I also installed a new 550w Coolmax power supply. Now I have issues with the graphics locking up or the pictures dissapearing and both of the monitors showing "No Signal". I have a Hp 510c with a 2ghz AMD processor, 1 Gig of RAM and the new stuff mentioned above. Everything else is stock. I downloaded the Newest drivers from the AMD/ATI web site. Before I installed the newest card and drivers I made sure I deleted both the old stock and Omega drivers from the computer.

Anyone have an idea why my graphics are freaking out???

Not a computer guy.....sorry   how do you do that? and I was told that since I had an ATI card already migrating to a better ATI card would inly require a new set of drivers.

When you pc starts it will say "to enter setup press ?" usually f1, delete or esc to enter setup.. in bios you will need to change the memory size of the device to the correct size.. it is pretty easy but intimidating.

I don't know squat about computers, but i do enjoy messing with them, so I'm interested in the outcome of your current problem.  Like I said, I'm a NOOB with these things, but wonder about the following.

1.  When you bring up the properites of the graphics card does all that look proper?
2.  Does the new card show up in device mgr. with the proper specs?
3.  Is your resolution set to one that the card supports?
4.  Does the card work in safe mode?

Please don't take offence at any of this, like I said, I'm interested too, and just trying to learn something.

Everything is ok.....I have not tried safe mode.
The settings are default except the dual monitors.
The card is in device manager and shows up properly.
The resolution is supported for both of my monitors.

no offense taken, I just want to resolve the problem

What're you running for cooling inside the case? That's one possibility, although doubtful. I know on my new 6800XT (which yes I know is an nVidia and AGP 8x/16x) there was a slot to plug in one of the berg connectors for extra power to the card, is there one on your card and is it plugged in?

A beefy 3d card like the X1650 Pro, I'd say should have at least 95-100W all to itself (so for most systems, you're looking at 350-400W for the entire system) as well as a PSU that is capable of delivering a solid 18-22A minimum on the 12v rail.

Also, if you have a VIA or ULI chipset motherboard, these have a huge host of problems with stability, temperature and stability. A new 3d card will suddenly tax your northbridge, which VIA/ULI northbridge chipsets are notorious for being unstable at higher temperatures. They are also fairly non-standard in their AGP support if this is an AGP based system. Many users have to disable Fast Writes or reduce the AGP to 4x to improve stability. Luckily, neither setting has any real impact in 3d/gaming as those features don't apply.

Hope that helps...

I have the card plugged in and it is an 18A plug so that should be enough. The fan for the card runs and the fan from the powersupply, I also installes the vent in the sot on the back of the machine.

put the old video card back in and see if it does the same thing.

if it does, the new powersupply could be defective.    if it doesn't your new video card could be defective

you might try reseating the video card.  make sure the system is OFF and unplugged

make sure if the video card required a molex connector make sure thats plugged in secure as well.

UPDATE....Card was bad, took it back and exchanged it for an Invidia G7800 overclocked.....problem solved, everything looks great and no more crashes!
