So I was tinkering around with my GPS, compass, and maps, and I got to thinking.  How do I shoot an azimuth with Google Earth?

For instance, sitting on my couch, I see a mountain ridge.  The ridge is 285 degrees from my couch.  How do I draw a line from my house (which is marked) 285 degrees to mark the point on that ridge with google?

I can draw a line to which range I think it is, but it doesn't tell me the azimuth.

Now I have maps, so I can do it from those, but I was thinking there has to be a way to do it within Google Earth.

Any ideas?

ETA:  Within google earth, if I go to the view menu, there is an option for "compass".  It is selected.  Toggling back and forth with it on or off doesn't change anything, so maybe there is an add-on I have to install?

Is it possible (in the toolbars or anything) to expand the compass that's in the upper corner of the Google Earth screen?

Not that I can see.

The best I can come up with is to zoom into my house, then tilt or rotate the earth to approximately 285 degrees.  This isn't very accurate though.

Putting gridlines on also helps, but isn't the most accurate.
