The Phoenix spacecraft travelled 423 million miles to a landing zone that is 12 x 44 miles.  At that range, 12 miles is 2.84e-8 radians, or about 0.0001 arc minutes.  And, Mars is orbiting the Sun at a mean velocity of 24.13 KM / Sec.  That makes .5 arc minutes at 100 yards for a stationary target sound pretty easy.

Yeah except they had guidance systems and didn't have to worry about wind drift and other factors for most of the way over there.

Lets see you hit mars with something from here.  Any way you look at it its a pretty impressive engineering feat.
