So the wife* bought and is sending me a GoPro 3+ Silver.

I know exactly nothing about this, but I know she wanted me to have a camera to take pictures of this deployment, the last one I only have like three pictures. So is there anything awesome I should have, and is there a sweet mount i should use? Also, thinking about when i get home, any ideas for a mount to put on a rail system for either a pistol or rifle?

Is there anything i should know?

thanks

*in afghanistan, dont have any new wife pics, look through my old posts to see pictures

You are going to absolutely love that camera. Well, maybe more at home, when your life is not distracted by animals trying to kill you. Be safe.
Come home with all of your parts.

I have some spare mounts from when I won their daily contest.  Send me your shipping address, and I will put some together.

Any idea what the range is on that Wifi/Smart Phone controller?

I like taking wildlife pics and would like to try staking out some bait near the camera.

I mount one on the gyrocopter and just turn it on before takeoff and off after landing an hour or so later. Still plenty of battery left after that time frame.

I have a Hero 3+ Black.

If you are running WiFi and doing a lot with it, the battery life can be a bit disappointing. I have ran mine all day, all sorts of vid's and pic, etc..and the battery lasted.

Once you get used to it you'll know what is worth capturing with it and what is not. Also, take a look at the LCD back screen...and, FWIW, I think the best way to capture 'stills' is to take a 2-3 sec vid of highest framefrate then screen and crop. You have to have A TON of light and be very still for the still function to work. But with the video and a screen/ grab/ crop..you can capture some amazing pics.

Should have it in a couple weeks. Amazon sells it and it has excellent reviews.

Yep you want at least 2 batteries.  And mine goes dead if you don't remove the battery when not using.

But the short range video is amazing for such a tiny thing.  A head mount is useful for me when razoring in the mountains.

Don't forget to download their free video editing software. It's a lot better then when I first got mine.

There is some good stuff here.

Weapon mounts, both rifle and pistol.  Molle webbing mount as well.

I have a Hero 2 with the LCD backpack that I use for diving and what not. I get about an hour with that combination. If I use the additional battery backpack I get around 3 1/2 hours or so of video.

I'll have to check back into the the GoPro Stuido II, there were several things about I didn't like. I didn't like the need to convert first and some other requirements...Windows movie maker has been ok by me.

That is pretty good thinking.  Do you have issues with it wanting to rotate downward?  Or can you put enough torque on the fastener to keep it in place.  I haven't tried any weapon mounts with my GoPro yet.  Its still a dirtbike or handheld kind of thing.

The most intriguing item for me on the Strikemark page is that molle mount.  Easy way to integrate the cam, even with your mount.

There's a mount that plugs into the NVG socket on your helmet.

They are neat!

I have a hero3+ black edition. The only thing I've done with it thusfar is stick it to the swingarm of my CBR1000RR.

Turn down your sound a bit...That gearbox is obnoxious.
