Some of you mentioned that having to do a quarantine was a deal breaker. I understand. But for me I was origionally prepared to do two weeks so I booked the best hotel I could find with a corner suite with a jacuzzi balcony. Then later after my booking and because I was from the USA Thailand eased quarantine to 11 days. Then because I had proof of vaccination it was reduced to one week. I brought my laptop, a wireless keyboard and mouse and a HDMI cable to hook my laptop into the big TV at the foot of my bed. I could lay in bed all day and surf the internet or watch YouTube or hundreds of chanels on the TV if I wished. Attached File Attached File |

It's just that few people with 2 week vacations are going to risk a 1 week quarantine plus the risk of testing positive and going through god knows what after that. It's too unpredictable for most. They will have to wave the quarantine completely like the Phuket deal to have any chance at meaningful tourist numbers. |

Just to be clear this was the room I did my quarantine in in Bangkok and not a normal hotel. The whole Hotel is set up as an ASQ quarantine hotel now. The price includes pickup at the BKK airport shuttle to your room, 3 meals a day, covid test on day 5, daily room cleaning after covid test shows you are negative. Very expensive by Thai standards because of all the extra services that are included. It works out to about $175 USD a night. By comparison my beach front room on the island of Koh Samui was less than $48 a night. I will post more about my arrival into Thailand and the whole quarantine experience soon. |

Seamstress lady took them to repair. When I came back in a couple hours she said she didn't have that large of a button come back at 5PM. I came back she showed me 2 buttons one smaller than mine one larger I said maybe the larger one would work She said no no and showed me my shorts. She had replaced the button and was just offering me the other 2 buttons. I asked how much? 30 baht, about one dollar. She had to actually go shopping somewhere to find the buttons fixed my shorts and gave me the extra buttons for $1. I gave her 100 baht, about $3 she was very happy. These people work so hard for so little. |

Attached File So the massage parlors were allowed to open up this week. There literally are thousands of them here in Pattaya. I had to try the Thai massage. Now I'm not talking about the "happy ending" type of massages you bunch of degenerates but a legit massage. Those of you that don't know what a Thai massage is the lady will literally get on your back and use her forearms, shins, elbows, and knees. She cracked my back six times, even better than a chiropractor.  One hour for $6. |

He says he’s never met or even heard of a Westerner going there and not indulging in the sex trade. A couple years ago he decided to never move back to Thailand since he has kids and HIV has gone insane there. When I asked him about the ladyboy thing he said children are the bigger focus for most westerners. |

Even here in Pattaya some of the bars have flat screen TVs mounted under their roofs but outside their bars area. At night after closing they "lock" the bar by just stacking bar stools all along the open front area. But you can walk up to and touch.the TVs as they are outside this area. No one even thinks about stealing them. Now this bar has been shut down for almost a year just like this. Normal nightly shutdown involves just a few barstools not at all to this extent. "Crime" by itself doesn't tell the story, The types of crimes and where directed are what affects quality of life. Thailand has plenty of crime. Heck, prostitution is a crime in Thailand, one conducted with ear impunity. This only touches in larger issues with corruption and trafficking. Lots of scams targeting tourists, plenty of drug trafficking. But, the kind of violent crime and property crime that most people think of when it comes to crime that affects them? Not really so much. Stay away from scammers and drugs and you really have very little to worry about. |
