But my friend is looking to come here when Phuket opens operation sandbox maybe next month as island quarantine sure beats hotel quarantine and it is only one week instead of two. Also with almost 30 hours travel time to get here from the Midwest then 30 to get home then recovering from jet lag I feel two weeks wouldn't be enough vacation time even without quarantine. |

China has boatloads of tourists that crowd the beaches parks etc once they are allowed back in. Because I'm vaccinated I can go anywhere in Thailand . Yes bars are still closed but could open at any time, no one knows. Pattaya Beach was closed for swimming but I wouldn't want to swim there anyway, too much runoff water from the city. Island beaches where one would want to swim most are open. My goal was to get here before things opened up and then to be one of the first here as it opens up. ETA also prices are greatly reduced now. My beach front room was less than $48 and included free breakfast. |

The expats have a saying here "T I T" which stands for this is Thailand.
After I finished my one week quarantine in Bangkok I stayed there one week to check it out explore, and open a bank account. Now with the "new wave" of covid that hit Thailand they labeled different areas/zones Deep Red, Red, Orange etc depending on the number of infected people in those zones. Bangkok and Pattaya were at that time deep red. Then I went to Pattaya to a hotel while I looked for a long term rental place. The hotels restaurant was closed just like all other restaurants in the city due to covid (restaurants sold food for carry out only, no inside dining). But the hotel offered a free breakfast each morning to guests staying there. So I go down the next morning expecting to order food and take it back to my room. But no they had tables set up and as you entered they showed you a menu , you picked what you wanted then went in and sat down at any table you liked. There was a coffee, juice, make your own toast bar to help yourself to. Then they brought your food out for you to eat at the table. The place was almost deserted but you could share a table with someone if you wanted to no problem. Yet the restaurant wasn't open any other time of the day due to covid. So I concluded the covid apparently doesn't affect you when you are eatting bacon, eggs, saussage, toast etc. Remember T I T |

They are just not "legally" allowed to sell alcohol in restaurants yet. On Koh Samui restaurants were selling alcohol. Tourist places are gearing up, getting ready for when things open up. Everywhere I walk I see lots of remodeling going on to bars and clubs during this "down time". As for what excursions will be open in Phuket during operation sandbox, I don't know yet. Hopefully in a week or two I will go to Phuket as there are many islands in the Andaman Sea that are extremely beautiful that I want to see when uncrowded. Then I will see if I can get better answers to your question. |

Of the 5 nights that I was at that resort only the first night had a family of 4 and the second night had a young couple staying there.
No one else stayed there during those two nights and all other nights no one was there at all except me and the staff. The staff kept busy manicuring the gardens. Attached File |

There were three beach dogs that hung out infront of the resort.
They would dig shallow holes under the beach chairs to lay in the cool sand. Some of the staff at the resort would put out dishes of food for them. Thai people even when they themselves are going through hardships still help take care of the animals. They often put collars on the dogs showing that someone is helping to care for them. This dog was the oldest of the three he had no collar but the other two did. I liked him and I would share some of my breakfast with him each morning. When he got too hot he would get up and go for a swim. The other two never swam. Beach doggo life. |

The quarantine and constantly changing rules is what makes it a deal breaker for most. Then add that many businesses are closed or gone under and it looks like a ghost town by 9pm. It's going to take a year or more for that region to get back in the swing of things. The only saving grace is that Chaweng beach was the armpit of Samui doing normal times. Now it's probably bearable. You should take the ferry over to Koh Tao and check it out. Pretty cool island.

Usually, those are two very distinct types of trips. Fortunately, domestic flights are pretty cheap. Ayutthaya is a potential day trip from Bangkok. Sukhothai is tougher and will probably require a dedicated flight. If you want to hit all those types of cities, might be worth a venture to Cambodia and the famous Angkor Wat... not sure the smartest way to do that. 3-4 days chilling on a beach followed by 3-4 days playing Indiana Jones (or vice versa) might be one way to approach it. Bonus points if you can take more time off. |

So today , Monday, in Pattaya for the first time in a long while Gyms and Massage parlors were finally allowed to open up.
Just last week they opened up the beaches here to allow people to walk or picnic on the sand and the beach chair / umbrella people were all out along with the non-alcoholic beverage vendors and various food carts. Good sign that things are easing up here a bit. Im still planning on flying to Phuket maybe late next week to check that area out. |
