I've never owned a Glock (with a Steyr and XD why bother) but I'm thinking of picking up a 9mm for the wife.  I've really liked the last two guns I bought for her, so I end up with those and get to keep looking for something for her.

Anyway, is there any method to their model numbers?  Any way to know that a Glock XX is a sub compact in 9mm while Glock YY is a .45GAP in full size?

I've wondered this as well.

The only ones I'm sure of off the top of my head is that the G17 is the full-size 9mm, G19 is compact, and G26 is subcompact...and only because I've shot all three.

I would suggest the Glock 19....A very fine weapon

The are numbered in the order they introduced them.   Which makes perfect sense, but makes it hard to remember what size and caliber the models are

Would be convenient id they had done something like

G17 = 9/S (9mm, standard)
G19 = 9/C (9mm, compact)

etc

But they didn't

It would be great to shop the EE or gunbroker without needing a reference page to find caliber/frame size dammit.

The Glock 17 was Gaston's 17th design (and first firearm design).

Does anyone have any tricks, or do I just have to learn every damn model of Glock (.45GAPWTFBBQ)?

I can't keep track of them above 23 except for the 25, I have a 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23.  Sort of want a 25 for the fun of it but BATFE says no.

lol, I knew one firearm newbie who thought the Glock numbers meant capacity. If you only knew about the G17, this might make some sense.

When all I knew about was the 17 (I think that's all that was out at the time) this is what I thought as well.  But I was a kid then.

the 17 is the 17'th patent gaston glock filed, and so on through the various models

the 34 was his 34'th patent.

and is also the order in which the various models were presented to the market.

Here's a good visual chart to figure it out quickly. The links give the tech specs for comparison.

What do you call a paraplegic on your doorstep?  Matt.

Just wanted to give you another stale joke that's not funny to tell when you run out of Glock kaboom jokes.

Sorry, that was the first one I ever told.  I thought it was funny.  I own a 22 and a 36 and love them both dearly.  So seriously, why start at 17?
