Some folks think they are legit. They are BS. I dont know why people continue to praise the show. If you know anyone who worships that show, show them these clips.

On the one hand, I do believe in a life after this one.

On the other hand, I think people who run around in cemeteries with IR cameras and EMF meters asking the spirits of the dead to "show themselves" are foolish and silly.

Oh, and I freely admit I have no proof of any life after this one, so maybe believing in one makes me foolish and silly too.

As for the show, I saw a commercial, the pansy screams like a girl when he hears something fall like a sheep, If it was me I would charge the noise head on shouting "YOU WILL NOT HAUNT THIS HOUSE" while blading.

That in its self should tell you something.  Unless and until you personally experience something that is unexplainable yet real, you won't understand.  If you ever experience it, your viewpoint will change, I can guarantee you that.

I'm not saying that TAPS and Ghost Hunters aren't fake, because I think that virtually all of the things shown on those programs are exactly that...fake.

We need to make our own ghost show. It would make it maybe 3 episodes but we would get a damn good laugh.

If we get a seriously bad haunting we can call in our very own exorcist. Swindle

There's a guy (James Randi) willing to give $1,000,000 to anyone who can prove the existence of ANY paranormal activity whatsoever - ghosts, telekinesis, ESP, dowsing, perpetual motion machines, whatever.  He hasn't paid out yet and IIRC has only even had to test 10 or so times, because none of the frauds will submit to anything even resembling a controlled experiment.   Just remember, if it's cool enough for reality TV, but no research facility in the world cares, there's a reason.

Yes.  Randi

I've shut some people up with this but they're been kind of bitter about it.  You don't want to be the guy who tells the kid there's no Santa but we're talking about adults.

I also agree that the shows aren't legit.  If they actually waited for something to happen to put on tape, we'd probably get 1 or 2 new episodes a year and would only make full episode length if the showed the full amount of time spent setting up and taking down the equipment.

I do believe there is stuff out there.  I do believe there are honest investigators out there.  I also know you will not find a complete honest TV series on the subject.  I can imagine an honest documentry based on years of work, but for a weekly TV series, it just wouldn't work.  TV execs want ratings, reguardless of the truth of content.

Any investigative group that tries to run a weekly series will run into the same obsticle.  TV execs want somthing they can show now.  You will not constantly be able to produce legitamite footage and findings to meet the deadlines the TV execs would put forth.  So, it leaves the investigator in a position where they have to decide to the want to be legit or employed.

I think that when the show started out they had the intentions have actually trying to provide evidence of ghosts with their investigations and have probably had some decent evidence prior to the show taking off.  But then their show became so popular that they had to continue to make money.  Which is were the production crew came in to make up the evidence.

Agreed.

It's not clear to me why a show like that should ever NEED "debunking" in the first place.

Where did the expression "debunk" come from anyway?
