| So for post 4000, I will say that I just bought a Lee 50th anniversary reloading kit today at the local sporting goods store. $135. I also bought reloading dies for .303 British and 7.62x54R. I'm going to have to pick up dies for .308 and 7.62x39 as well. Any recommendations for a starting reloader? |

ETA: the reloading forum is here Lots of good info. |

+1 for Dillon I have the 550, and its an awesome press. In any case, when starting up, work up gradually with your loads. Best to go with half grain increments and make 5 or 6 different incremental loads, then by .2 grain variations, and then .1 grain variations, IF you're going for accuracy. Get some good reloading books, and ask some guys at the gun counter what experiance they have with different powders. |

Hey OP, I gotta warn you; you will never save money reloading. What you will have is metric asstons of high quality ammo. It's more badass than words can convey |

I just want more. I don't have enough. Only a few hundred 308, like 500 .303, aboot 30 7.62x54R, 1800 7.62x39, a few thousand .22lr, and a hundred or so 12 gauge. I need moar. |

You guys are all just saying: Get a progressive press!!! Well, I am poor. I cannot afford one. Also, are you able to reload large rifle rounds on progressives? Biggest I have is .308 but Dillons will do 30-06, no prob. Forster Co-Ax is a fantastic single stage press. Built like it's made for a factory and works like butter. Also, no shellplates are necessary since it automatically grasps case rims. I have one next to my Dillon for small batches. It truly is the cat's ass |

Some advice- Go Slow. Develope good habits and you will be fine.
As for progressives-lotsa guys use them I'm not one though. Maybe it's all the safety stuff crammed down my throat after 20+ yrs. at work. I just like continuously checking the process. Thats just me-23yrs.loading and only 1 squib. |

So what kind of powders would you guys recommend to pick up when I go by the store again to pick up some more manuals and components? This is just shtf/plinking ammo and I don't need MOA, just MOMan. For that list of calibers? Here's my advice: buy 3 or 4 good reloading manuals and The ABC's of Reloading, read 'em all cover to cover (they work great for night table bedtime story stuff), and pick your own medicine. I've had good results with Hodgdon VARGET with .223 in the short time I've been doing AR ammo and it works well for many .308 loads too. Word or warning tho; IMR of H4895 are preferred for M1A type rifles apparently. Seems Varget can overpressure the gas system. The two powders I mentioned are applicable to a lot of 7.62x54R loads as well, bit it looks like 7.62x39 needs other stuff. Happy Shooting

Bullet puller. Mistakes will be made.
Tumbler for cleaning brass Chronograph, even a low cost Chrony (made in Canada) comes in handy. Dial caliper for measuring cases, overall length... You will not save money by reloading; you only shoot more for the same amount of cash. |
