After building "stuff" out of wood for so long it's time for me to take the step forward into metal fabrication! I need to start welding, mainly simple stuff like target stands, metal storage shelves, stuff like this. I have very little welding experience, but did do a little gas welding when I was a kid in my uncle's shop.

Was thinking of picking up a used arc welder. Would appreciate any advice you welders can offer a newbie like me...

Thanks,
Jimmy

I bought a $420 Lincoln mig welder at Lowe's and put in new floor pans on a car.  I had never welded in my life before.  If I can do it, you should have no problem welding.

I had this same conversation this weekend! There are a lot of things I could fix/make better if I could weld. I could make a nice door through chain link fencing for my chicken coup. I could weld junk and make lawn sculptures and sell them downtown, you wouldn't believe what people would pay for that!

I could make a dog box for my truck. I could make a nice metal frame for a spare room so I could have a safe room. The list is endless!

So . . . . tag
