I almost never get carded. I really haven't ever with any regularity. The occasional 16 year old checkout clerk at the grocery store will ask for ID.
Tonight I was asked if I was 21 at WaWa while purchasing beer. I replied yes and started to break out my ID. The guy laughed and said "just kidding." Me: "No big deal, it's just an extra couple seconds to whip out the ID, but thanks." Him: "If someone cards you you should smack them. Seriously. Especially for cigarettes." I'm 29. I had an emotional response to that statement. I guess if I were a woman I'd be into pint #2 of Ben and Jerry's...instead I'm on beer #10. I was already fat. Now I'm old too?

For the younger guys, here's a ProTip:
When they ask for your ID when buying alcohol, just calmly say, "They took it away." Their curiosity will get the best of them and they'll ask who took it or why it was taken. Inform them it was taken due to a DUI. You'll automatically be old enough to drink.

| Some municipalities mandate this for eveyone. We had a dinner at a local restaurant for my grandmothers 90th bday. They refused to serve her a glass of wine as she did not have a picture ID showing her age. I'm all for stopping underage drinking but this is friggin ridiculous. |

I used to card the shit out of people and it took alot before I would remember a face.
People bitched but I didn't care. I wasn't about to get stuck with a fine because some asshole was too lazy to pull out a card. I loved the ones who would tell me they never carry their license when they get in their CAR and leave. |

My (older) brother and I walked out of a place because they wouldn't take his temp. ID with no picture. He's 30 and I'm 25. Neither of us look young, either. ETA: We left and went to a place next door, sat down at the bar and told this good looking bartender what had happened. She bought the food, and served us all the drinks we wanted without even bothering to see ID. |

Well, fuck it. I'm not so much against getting carded, it's just the first time someone on the other end (the seller) made like it was ridiculous that I should be. It's just that I've never had someone fresh off of their "scared straight ID or go to jail" video orientation think it's hilarious that someone believes I should be carded. Let me add that the law in VA is if the person doesn't appear to be 30 years old, they have to be carded.
Either way, I'm drunk enough to bitch about it now, but I'm pretty sure I'm over it in sober world. Just making an observation while crawling across the hump. |

Wait until you realize that the girls that you see as 'hot' think of you in the same way that they would think of their friends fathers.
I remember when I first stopped getting carded....it was like I was finally a 'mature man'. That quickly faded. Even worse when you are on a line going into a place that has a bouncer at the door (like a college bar or a club) and they are routinely checking every single person...then they get to you and casually wave you in, as if to suggest there is no reason to even look. But the thing that really kicked my ass...seeing what I thought was a really cute girl....the kind that (if I wasnt married) I'd like to think that I could get a date with...and she calls me "Sir".
I am much younger at heart than my appearance suggests apparently |

Some towns around me are like that, everyone gets carded. |

Here in NH liquor commission "suggests" IDing everyone who "looks like they're under 30" Handy trick for the clerks/servers: In the course of liquor commission compliance checks, the kids used to run the compliance check are not permitted to lie or misrepresent their age in any way. You can pass a compliance check by simply asking 'are you 21?' 'are you old enough to buy alcohol?' 'what's your birthday?' etc (and acting accordingly). |
