Lawrence O’Donnell is going off the rails on it too. He claimed Kelly is racist because he’s from Boston. O’Donnell is from Boston too, but said something to the effect that his section of Boston wasn’t racist, just Kelly’s.
Kelly is from Brighton. I lived in Brighton and my step-mother grew up there. She’s only a couple of years younger than Kelly, graduated the year he entered the Marine Corps. It’s an incredibly diverse section of Boston full of college kids (Boston College, Boston University, and Northeastern students mostly). To call it racist, even from back in the 60’s, is ludicrous. O’Donnell isn’t really from Boston though, he’s from a Boston suburb (Needham) and grew up in private Catholic schools. He is truly talking out his ass. Of all the places to claim were “segregated and racist” in Boston, Brighton belongs at the bottom of the list. |
