I posted this in the home security forum - but there doesn't seem to be much traffic there, so I'm asking for input here as well.

I have a gate in my backyard that looks like this:

It has a latch like this on the backside (facing my back yard):

The latch is welded on, not screwed.  I keep it locked with a pad-lock.

Last week, some "well to do 'ers" pried open my gate, bending the metal clasp; and stole my lawnmower from the backyard.

Any suggestions on how to harden a gate like this?  I already bought and installed a padlock clasp, sorta similar to this, but an looking to see if there is anything else I can do - short of replacing the gate with one of those expensive ones with the keyed deadbolt built in.

Anyone used one of these?

Stanley CD6203 LokkLatch Deluxe, ~$75

Z-Lokk, ~$80

I like the handle of the Z-Lokk, but like the standard simplicity and lack of a handle to kick of the Stanley.

Thoughts?  Other suggestions?

wouldn't spend too much money, as anyone really wanting to get in can sawzall through your hinges in about 30 seconds.

How about a blood stain and a couple 45 casings strewn about?

Seriously if they want in they'll either hop it or break it.
