I have searched high and low, RTFM and online at Garmin but I have a "picking gnat poo out of pepper" question. The model is the 60C, a color mapping Garmin. During the day, I pick up 7-11 satellites with all strength bars plain. At night on clear, flat ground, some of the satellite signal strength bars have a "D" on them. What does this "D" mean? Can't be digital since GPS signals are digital. BTW, it happens with WAAS enabled and not. Oh yes, some color Garmins have a $50 rebate offer that isn't widely advertised. Check out the website. TIA! |
| Those are the WAAS sats, they have better connection and can be reached at all times they are in the air.(no just at night.) They take up a little more power but it is worth it. If I had my batteries charged for my Etrex I would tell you how to turn them on and off. |
From my garmin manual (etrex vista):
WAAS is like secondhand DGPS right? maybe that is why they chose that explanation. I went and looked through the 60C manual and you are right...they don't mention the 'Ds' at all. But they do give a better description of WAAS and DGPS |
