Good show, they do tend to dumb down the gun stuff a bit, but then again not every know as much a we do

I admire the host (how can anyone not admire a guy who was a SEAL for 10 years?), I like the premise of the show and the content.  But the dialog is cheesy and sensational and often very inaccurate.  For example, on the Barrett .50 segment they said there was documented proof of the .50 round "cutting a man in half" at 2000 meters.

I like the show as well, but I think the host is too obnoxious.  I admire and respect his 10 years as a SEAL, but when you look at the camera, scrunch up your face, and snarl out how devastating this new weapon is, it just ain't cool.

I like it!
loved watching the 50 cals.

I watched part of the 50 cal show last week. The seal guy was of no help at all to people wanting to own a 50; he described the weapon as "sinister". He had a few other phrases for it, but I blanked most of them out.

I really find it hard to believe he hit a target at 2000m on the first try, possible, not very probable

Episode just went off.   That LM systems girl was kind of cute.

Did not look like much damage on the center of that target for the TACMS target???

+1.. the guy may have been a great SEAL, but he's an over-dramatic douche now.

That being said, the episode with the mad-scientist Brit and his water bomb was awesome.

I'm really starting to like that British Dr. who plays with HE all the time. That guy is a genius. They should make him the host.

The camera man needs to draw down on his ass for sweeping him with the muzzle a dozen times.

When the host is reading the que cards, he's an overacting jag bag. But, when he's freelancing and giving a genuine impression, you get a totally different version of him. I'm sure he's getting a nice paycheck.

whats so amazing about a .50 caliber weapon shooting through a cinder block and a melon?

thats like.. nothing.

Overdramatic douche is right. The Dragonskin segment is especially illustrative of his douchebaggery.

"It stopped the 5.56 round. It stopped the 7.62 round. It even stopped the 9mm round!"

I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that.

I watched one episode of this show and the dumbass held up a bullet and said "this is the 308 round, the standard round fired by the AK-47!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I know, I know....  The Yugo and mabey other AK type weapons can fire the .308 but thats not the standard.

It's a pretty cool show! I'm sure the host has to go by the script and was not an actor before this show. I'm sure the writters think a little cheese sells.

I saw the episode with the MP7.

He swept the camera man a few times...but I assumed he was using a cleared weapon.

Then there was the bit where he was on the range with the weapon pointed dead at the camera....and then he turned, clicked off the safety and fired the weapon.

That means he pointed a loaded weapon at his camera man.

Not cool.

Not cool at all.

If they were using a tripod mounted camera or a remote camera just to get the muzzle-end shot, then he was perfectly fine.

If not, then it was not cool at all.

That being said, is he a bit over dramatic reading the script? Yes.

Is it a bad show? Not really. Personally I just wish they would do away with the melodramatic voice over work.

God that guy is so annoying. He is always kinda intently whispering at you, as if they are about to get him or something.

How many times is he going to be impressed that he can hit things at 2000 yards? Barret, AS50, and now Barret again, jesus dude, we know you can do it, show us the toys!

Its a good show, ruined by that guy and bad writing. Actually its probably a better show on mute.

Granted, he may not be the best actor for the show, but he knows what he is talking about and has some experience, being a SEAL.

I noticed that on the show. I was thinking DAMN! that is really wild to see how much everything actually moves, including the shooter.

The show would be much better with a new host.   I dont give a damn if he was a seal and an army navy delta ranger.   Overdramatic is an understatement.

The Scottish explosives expert and his cool gadgets are the best.

The Aardvark mine flail was pretty damn cool too. Purposely going out and running over mines.

The man was Sniper with the SEAL teams, he hit it first time the guy is an awesome shot should have seen his shooting with the TAVOR the guy is good.

Wow, I love all the arm chair commandos that talk trash about a real deal Navy SEAL.  You people are soooo funny.

He said this and I caught this mistake...good for you have a cookie.  The show is written for the common individual and if it boost support for new military systems and our allies than I say "Good Job."

Oh, and the camera men always work out how to do the angles of the camera or do it on a tripod or remotely to maintain safety, I hightly doubt either the range master, military, or the host himself would allow a loaded weapon to be pointed at a camera man.

I love the show and watch it all the time the star is kinda hokey but whatever, Dr Alfred has made great equipment for the EOD community better than his competitors I accidently destroyed an Icecream stand with one of his water bottles. That being said he hates America and American foriegn policy I attended one of his classes it's enogh to make you want to punch him in the face.

The episode that was on last Monday, when I started this thread, had on a new sub-machine gun for CQB. It was made by Heckler and Koch in the spirit of the MP-5, it was called the MP-7, and fired something like a higher powered 4.3mm round, with vest penetrating capabililty, but not overpenetration like the 5.56 in CQB. They showed Mr. Navyseal shooting it through a Kevlar helmet, and a vest with a steel plate in it.

Comments?

I dont like the show. I cant get over the way he talks.

The finisher for me was when he said that the .308 was the standard round for the AK47. Although, he was probably reading of the script.

I did like the show about the Tavor though, that looks like an exellent weapon.

I don't care if the host can run 20 miles, swim underwater for 8 minutes, and gut a shark with his teeth.

He still sucks.

future weapons & tactical to practical have both been ruined for me by their cheesy hosts. both hosts must mention something about being a SEAL or a F18 pilot for every gadget that they look at. the whole script seems so forced. i also get annoyed that more time is spent talking about weapons than showing them.

rofl, that guy from Future Weapons is a dumb ass. I highly doubt he was ever special forces, I was watching an episode about the Barrett M82A1 and to compare how big .50 BMG was he goes "This is what .50 BMG looks like, next to a .308 standard AK-47 round."

2/3/2007 4:24:08 PM EDT

My daughter just turned 12. She points out some serious errors the host makes.
Still, they do have some neat things.

Special Forces= ARMY.

He was a NAVY SEAL.

So you're right, he never was SF.

Technically...if you want to be a dick, the diameter of a standard AK47 round is .308...

Heres a kicker for all you guys- Next time you have a conversation with someone who falls under SOCOM (Seals, Army SF) or any other non-Socom HSLD unit (MFR), ask them specifics about the firearms they use.

Unless the guy is a Army SF weapons sergeant, chances are he may not know the specifics about what he is using.  Ask a SEAL what MK262 is...or how it performs...see what they say.  A few of them might know what it is....if they care.  I'd be willing to bet quite a few of them would look at you like this

These guys are trained to kill, survive, and put boot to ass.  They have experience with different weapon systems, and they know what they like.  They know what works in certain environments and what doesn't.  Many of them couldn't give two shits about the little details, because all they are concerned about is what works and what doesnt.

I've asked questions to some of these HSLD types, assuming I'd get some really good feedback or strike up a really good conversation...and then...common sense started playing its part and I realized...maybe they really don't give a shit about this stuff...all they care about is keeping themselves alive.  Hell, I knew more about the weaponry my buddy who served in Iraq as a Marine Recon Forward Observer was using than he did...but the fucker sure knew how to use them.  Unless they were gun nuts prior to their service, chances are they really don't know or remember all the little details that most of you are so fucking anal about.

Give the guy a break.  I'm just glad shows like this...that discuss cool shit that goes boom are even on TV.
