Here's the story- COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A woman was shot and killed Tuesday morning while riding in a car with her friend along Interstate 270. The shooting took place around 10 a.m. along the eastbound lanes of I-270, between state Route 62 and U.S. 23. SLIDESHOW: Shooting On Local Interstate According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, a bullet entered the driver's side door of the car and struck Gail Knisley, of Washington Court House. The driver, Mary Cox, was not hurt. Knisley died at Grant Medical Center at about 10:45 a.m. Woman Shot, Killed On I-270 "I can't see anything I don't even see a bullet hole," Cox told the 911 operator. Family members said Cox had just picked up Knisley in Canal Winchester. They were headed for a day of shopping in Easton, but while driving along I-270, they both heard a "bang, like a balloon." Kinsley then slumped over in the front seat, NewsChannel 4's Jesse Abdenour reported. "We were just traveling, talking," Cox told a 911 operator. "We haven't been together for a while." Knisley and Cox grew up together, according to family members. Cox's son said the women had not seen each other for about a month. Police planes, helicopters and canine crews were searching the woods north of I-270 for possible suspects, Abdenour reported. All lanes of I-270 reopened at about 12:30 p.m. The shooting was the third in the past week in that area, NewsChannel 4's Holly Hollingsworth reported. On Wednesday, a car was hit by a bullet while driving on U.S. Route 23, just south of I-270. Two days earlier, another vehicle was hit by a bullet while driving on I-270 between Parsons Avenue and Route 23. Police Probe Highway Shooting A woman reported that a bullet struck her sport-utility vehicle on Wednesday. A bullet struck a UPS driver's truck two days earlier. "I just went to the back of my truck, and there was a hole in the back of it," the driver said. "That's when we called police." Additionally, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they have three additional reports of vehicles being struck by bullets -- two in October and one in May, Hollingsworth reported. No one was hurt in any of the incidents before Tuesday. |

I don't think this was an accident.
You may have someone trying to terrorize the area. A pattern is building if you look at other recent bullets hitting cars reports along those highways. |

Just watched the local news story on this tragic event. Not that you can believe much they say but it does look like something other than an accident. What with one of the DC morons being convicted, I wonder if there is a wannabe on the loose?
I can't IMAGINE what the family is suffering tonight. Gail was but 62, married 44 years. A nice family lady, never hurt a fly. ANother friend was with one of her sons when he got the news - and it was bad, very bad. What do you say to someone in this case? Words just fail me, they really do. Sure hope they catch the moron. For him, it would be MUCH better if the cops get him..... Thanks for the kind thoughts! I am sure the family will appreciate them. |

Still trying to downplay serial nature or possibility of a moron doing this intentionally. 9pm same evening another vehicle was hit in area (US 23 south of 270). Still no word on caliber or much of anything else helpful. News vultures continue to pester the family for "how do you feel about her being killed?" reactions. I had the pleasure of flipping off one of the crews. Assholes. Services are Sat. I expect a LARGE crowd. |

I get SO SICK of reporters wanting to play on the emotions of victims!!!!!
If they spent more time on REAL NEWS and informative articles they might actually do some good. Be careful? Only way I know to do that is avoid the area. 100,000 vehicles are expected to use that road - today. Hell of a note when you need to wear body armour to go to grandmas! |
